RE: SAMS 2013 Warbird Racing Schedule
Marty, I didn't see a flier but here is the reg. page.
http://www.sacramento-rc-flyers.org/entryforms.html
It's always a good idea to reg at least a week before the race, this helps the guys plan. One of the Sac guys can comment on hotels however there are quite a few in the area. We usually start racing around 9:00-9:30 and finish around 3:00-4:30 time frame depending on participation.

Flyer and Registration Forms available at:
http://www.sacramento-rc-flyers.org/entryforms.html
We LOVE it when pilots pre-register, Marty! (It makes it much easier for the CDs, and it saves you a few bucks, too.)
This is the hotel closest to me (2.8 miles away, and I am a mere 12-minute drive from the field.): Holiday Inn Express 9175 W Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95758
For a number of other options, go to Google Maps and type in a search for “hotels near 11000 Florin Road, Sacramento” and a substantial list will come up. Those closest to Sunrise Blvd or White Rock may be your better options. (I personally would avoid the Florin Road area.)Remember, you do have the RV option at the site, as well, as we've previously discussed.

Thx Ollie,
I talked to Verano earlier and I may stay with him and drive from there.
If he goes and I can make it this will work.
I appreciate the hotel info in case I need that.
The MoHo would just cost too much in fuel for the one day event.
I like the idea of hangin out Sat night, just a tight schedule.
Maybe one day when I retire.

What time does racing start and usually end (estimate)?
Thanks

If you didn't catch it from the flyer . . . registration must happen before 8:15am, and racing to begin at 9:00am.

Anyone for a morning of race testing? I was thinking of going out to see if my old junk still flys on Monday morning 3/11.

Dave - I can probably make it Monday Morning - I have to see of I can move some hydration appointments to Tues. Need to break in both my YS 115S's - So even if I don't fly the new plane I'll be up there with the backup. Also have a Q500 to try out (play with) but I need a Nelson glow plug adaptor. Chris p.s. - weather looks like it's going to be nice & sunny!

I am not up there and didnt write the rules but if they allow a A123 then a Life should be ok. All I run is LiFe batteries. I have put a bunch in the dirt. some were rectangle packs that were reformed to a ball lol. not heat buildup of hint of a fire...
safer I think than NiMh that have caught fire in bad crashes.

Getting close now fellas. Lets hope the dry spell stays around for the next two weeks. Did Casey ever get another racer going? Steve Elmore says he may not be racing this year.

I plan on racing, working in reverse: Getting my backup ready this week, which I am more used to, and if I have time another plane next week...... At the same time I'm expecting twins any minute, plus I still have the Cancer thing going on, so it will be up in the air literally til race day. If I don't race, Casey can stick my YS110S in my Rockwell "Old Yellar" and go play in Silver........ I just updated the entire plane to 4-40 ball links, elevator pushrods, & a better wing hold down system, it will be done in a few days here.

I hope Steve manages to make at leastsomeof the races this year.
Once again, I'm struggling to get something in the air, too.
After pretty much taking a year off from building, Ifinally got back into it Saturday and installed my receiver on the "Galloping Ghost" (from my Trinity Racer build thread), connected all the linkages, and tried to run up the engine, Sunday. No compression . . . couldn't get it to start.I'm running out of time, and engines!
Today I went to work on the P-47 Jim Sweeney gave me and didn't have much luck there, either. When I flew it many months ago, it flew the course well, but was amajorhandful to land. I stripped the covering off the wing and cut flaps, hoping this will tame its landing characteristics. I thought all I had to do today was re-cover the wing. It turns out I had made a mistake and had to re-wire and re-solder the flap servo wires and run separate connections for each into my receiver. It also turns out that when I change the servo configuration in the programming of my radio, it resets my model automatically, and thus wiped out all the programming for that model. Now, instead of just trimming the plane for flaps, it will be a maiden flight, all over again (plus dealing with flaps, which I am not used to). So, after working much of the day on it, I still have to re-cover the wing, and am still worse off than before I started.
So, I am hoping for decent weather by Friday or Saturday so when I have this mess all sorted out, I can get my maiden flights in. But, the forecasts do not look promising.

Wow Ollie, sounds like you have your hands full. Unfortunately i am a bit airplane poor myself after Saturday. I lost the white Macchi. It was a great airplane that served me well for 3 seasons. What hurts the most is that I was leading the trophy race with 1 1/2 laps to go when she went in. Had been getting short glitches during the day and had dismissed them as thermals as the conditions in Fresno were great for soaring. After the crash I realized that the RX I was using was in my first .60 size Macchi that folded a wing. I should have known better. Going to try to fly the blue Macchi in silver.

RE: SAMS 2013 Warbird Racing Schedule
Ollie,
Looks like the weather is going to be ok at SAM tomorrow, call or text me if you need an engine - I can bring one up to you. I have a super well running YS91, and also super running YS110S. I don't know what class your running, but the 91 is dialed for Silver on 35-40% Nitro & 13x11, and the 110S will breakout in Silver pretty easy on 30% running a 13x13N or something close to that. Run either of them on 45% and watch out
Like I said, I'll be testing tomorrow around 10:00 -11:00am, should be there a few hours. I have to break in a YS115S and test fly & re-maiden Old Yeller. Chris 415.500.1373

Let me see what I am able to get accomplished today. If I can either:
- get an existing motor running,
- canibalize parts from crash-damaged engines from the previous two seasons to repair and recoup one into workable condition;
then, "The Ghost" will be ready to maiden.
A third option is to get my P-47 wing recovered and get the P-47 re-programmed & ready to re-maiden.
Of course I have a doctor's appointment, the truck needs a new battery and get smogged, and a couple other errands to run, so I'm not sure how much time I'll have, but I'll try to make something happen. I'll keep you posted. If I can make one of those options still happen today, I'll be out tomorrow too, Chris. I'd be happy to give you a hand. If not, maybe the wife will give me a couple hours on Monday (even though it is our Anniversary).

RE: SAMS 2013 Warbird Racing Schedule
Chris, I managed to canibalize two damaged YS 1.10Ss into one working engine, and successfully ran it on "The Ghost." (Still don't know what the problem was with my two FZ110s, though.) I plan on going out to run it up some more and then hopefully attempt to maiden tomorrow, weather permitting. I'll meet you out at SAM's right around the time you stated you planned to be there.
