Thanks CRG. Are the Polecats very competitive in the F1 GT class?

It depends on the airframe. A well prepared RnR Pole Cat is just as good as (perhaps better than) a GR-7 or AR-6. Others such as the Rankin and Manning airframes not quite so much, a well prepared and flown GR-7 or AR-6 would beat them most of the time. Either way they're worth competing with, there is a lot more going on when racing than just which model you fly.

How can you tell if your looking at a RnR Polecat verses the Rankin or Manning?

The RnR is the only one that is fully molded, it has a hollow wing. I believe all others have a foam wing. What do you have access to?

I'm not sure yet. I'm talking with a local guy that has a kit. I'll find out when I go see it on my days off after Thanksgiving.

I was wondering if anyone could help me get in touch with TEAMERICA. I've been trying to reach him since before Thanksgiving.

flyer1966 - Are you Tim Foster?
I posted two pictures of the GR-7 on my Gallery here at RCU. Then I sent two pictures to a Tim Foster in response to an email request back on Nov 25th.
Then, I sent an email on Sunday (Dec 1) in response to a voice mail telling Tim, that I was out of town and would send pictures when I got back home.
If you still want the pictures, let me know if your email address is good. I just re-sent the first email again. If you didn't get it, try PMing me. I will watch for it here.

I have already been there? There are only a few planes that can be built on the list that are competitive . Choices of planes are the same boring ones. I think I'll pass.

Thanks Tim

I raced a GR-7 in the F1 GT class and I flew a polecat in the F1 pro class. It was a blast for my first time racing. The sportsman class is a very cool class too. It's open to a lot of different kind of planes. Just requires a plane with a minimum wing span of 80" and a max weight

How many pilots fly in that class? Are they just as fast?

We had lots of entries in the sportmans class. They flew five planes per heat. You need a plane in the 140 to 160 mph range. The key is to fly 6 laps in a 2 minute bracket without going under 2 minutes. So if I fly 6 laps in 2 minutes 10 secs and someone with an unlimited plane fly's 6 laps in 1 minute and 59 secs you win the heat because he broke out under 2 minutes.. The class was won by an 11 year old flying a Modified Top Flite P51 with a DA 50. They had F1 planes, unlimited planes, a christen eagle, even a P 47 thunderbolt. I had a 42% cosmic wind with a DA 100 that I was going to race but crashed in practice when it stalled in the turn snap rolling twice and then hitting the deck. Ouch!!! Looking forward to running that class next year with a Proud Bird.

Ok I'm looking at two classes. Sportsman and Warbird. The rules though they are through some questions are still raised. Can I run a warbird in both classes if they meet both class rules? How do I go about submitting some drawings if required for these classes? I only saw submissions for the unlimited class. I really hate emailing I would prefer to talk to some one directly.

Tim,
Marty Flood here. I will address your questions and concerns here and hopefully they will help guide you. The USRA rules on the site will be helpful to lead you how to properly go about designing aircraft for a specific class and submitting those plans for pre approval. I will give you your West Coast Reps email ( I know you want to talk directly to a person, but out of respect for their privacy i will let them give you there phone number). I suggest you make your first email to him. he will talk with you and lead you thru the simple steps for what you desire.
As far as Warbird class nd Sundowner class, They are pretty much extinct. We had 4 entries on one and 2 in the other so to make it possible, for those with those planes, to be able to race we introduced the sportsman class which welcomed them as well as other old non competetive type former racers the chance to once again compete. With that said, you would be designing a plane (warbird I presume) for the sportsman class. And as Tim previously stated all it needs is to be 80" min wing span and race in a bracket class of 2:00 min and 2:30 Max. If you want to design a scale one that meets the unimited class rules then submit those drawings to your West Coast rep Chuck at this email: [email protected] Give him your number and he will return your call. I look forward to seeing what you create.

Hey Jeff,
If you raced richards in Unlimited, you would not want to waste it in sportsman, for that matter you wouldnt want to use any unlimited like that. There are unlimiteds that run in sportsman but they are older ones on gas. There is a tsunami in sportsman on a DA150 on gas. Its cool. Theres also a Miss Ashley ll on gas in sportsman so yes Jeff buy and build and come on out.

The reason to not waste the unlimited in sportsman is there are only so many runs on these motors, especially out there in the dirt. And there are only so many runs on those props before they fatigue. Oh and the unlimited props are $300-$400 each

well if i get richards plane I would fly it unlimited and then have another plane for the sportsman. Thinking of doing a larger Tsunami of tims. run a 50-60 size engine. i have a DLE 55 just sitting around now anyway.
