Had a chance to race the Airborne Spitfire today. It is a sweet flying plane and takes off and lands like a dream. Super fast. For those of you that have this on order- you will be impressed.

Today I ordered the worker raffle prizes. I have 11 BNF foamies ranging from a P51 to a cub to a 3D plane. I have a small pylon racer in there as well. There will also be a Spektrum TX, and I have elec switches, motor mounts, dave brown wheels and much more. I have acquired my CD license and with the help of a couple others the race is set. Again a huge thx to horizon Hobby, YS engine, APC Props, Waymire Decaling, Bert Mitchell, JR Schiager and more... Got the news that there is even a Canadian coming to this race with Tony lopez. I am confident a dozen or so RCPRO racers will be ther plus another 6-8 Q40 racers , a Giant Scale racer, and about 40-50 Nor Cal Racers. I filled for the sanction today.

Remember there are all 3 classes racing (bronze, silver and gold). No Platinum class this year.

Pre registration is mandatory. Max of 70 entrees.

Speed dash worth $500 to the fastest plane at the event. That plane needs to be inspected and registered. APC is sponsoring this event so you must run an APC prop..... feel free to tweak it as needed.

YS ENGINE to first place winners of each of the 3 classes
Trophies paid out to 1-3 only. We will be racing 3 rounds on Sat and 2 on Sun Morning. Then the trophy rounds will be held right after lunch break taking the first 4 planes in the points standings. But only 3 of these will get trophies and or prizes.

There will not be a B main or C main as the Nor Cal guys are used to.
Only one trophy race for each of the 3 classes to crown the warbird champ.

WOW! This is some great news Marty. One thing I think Robert at APC should insist on with his "Dash for the Cash" Contest is that ALL contestants run a Sock unmodified Prop. Perhaps he could bring all the popular sizes for the 110-120 engines as I seriously doubt a 2 stroke
would be a contender in this task. This would really put the focus on airframes and pilots ability. Just my opinion.

Dave,
I talked to Robert a Q40 race and he doesnt care. But I will insist any plane in the speed dash be one of his props, as he is the sole sponsor for that part of the event.
I ordered a 14.4x14.5 that I plan to tweak a bit for my plane. Im hoping it will keep up with Shawns which I suspect will hit around 110 mph.

Jeff, No 28X sorry
although the tracking info shows mine is due here tomorrow

I should order one of those radios. dont need it but it is the best radio out there.

Dave I could get a two stroke plane to hit 200 pretty easily. if I cant get a Four stroke plane to hit 200 then I will do it with a 2 stroke.

A SAM Legal plane? Perhaps in a dive from the Moon but not even close on the course we race on. No offence but if Mark Sumich can't NO One Can! Be interesting to see though. I do have alot of faith in your ability.

A YS 4 stroke will take that dash loot I'm 100% sure. I just didn't want it to go to the best Prop engineer but the fastest airframe. I'm sure I don't have a chance as I can hardly breakout at SAM's with the normal 65% I run. I just want to be there to watch the big dogs.

what ever Dave..... You break out on 30%.

Jeff must be looking at a Q40 set up, with clipped wings and foam inserted afterwards, running a Nelson or Jett w/carb?

I suggest you seek approval from a CD at what ever event you are pushing for Jeff.

Hey didnt we have this talk in Phx?

Does this mean that we have to run a YS engine and JR radio, too?????

marty not sure if i will do the plane in question as i am looking at other options right now. i wont do it with a nelson engine either but thinking a sport jett 50 and thinking a spitfire for the plane. its based off an old design already that has done 200 with a nelson. the sport jett 50 I have now turns a APC 8.75x9.25N at 23,000 on the ground. it has been worked some. i also have two YS 45 two strokes that i will "work" some and see what can be had out of them.

dave I bet you plane and a few others with the right prop and a dive will get 200 easily also in a 45 degree down line.

oh and i will try the YS four stroke route first.

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....", .....no, wait, it was at SAM! I recall a SAM member who designed and built a very scale 2-stroke-powered airframe, with retracts, and it's straight line speed easily surpassed that of the 4-strokes (yes, even the YSs). It lost some speed in the turns, but that's not what this speed dash is all about, right?

Fear not, 2-cycle fans...........this isn't a foregone conclusion. A 2-stroke should have a chance at winning the speed dash.

It isnt all about plane, motor and prop people. If you cant put the plane where it needs to be you wont get the max reading you deserve. The right dive and going level w/o scrubbing all the speed off while actually being level enough to not get DQed is critical. Im curious to see how many can actually hit the mark, and not the radar gun!!

Remember the plane used has to be registered for the race and inspected and either the primary or secondary.

Im curious to see Sullivans KI with a big prop and 90%

lol max you can run on these engines is 75% on glow and 80% on ignition assuming 20% oil.

I have always run 30% oil LOL! Nitro? 70% is max. Jim Sweeney and I ran 70% in a (Slightly) Modified YS-91 years back. Takes 3 guys to start it as you need 1 guy to bottle feed some 20% till the engine warms. We ran it without smoking a plug every heat too.
However if you don't have it over rich on the launch then goodbye exhaust valve by the 5th lap.

Ha Ha, Yeah I guess you could do that. A. I will never run that big nitro again and B.I just barely have enough room for my 18 OZ tank. Nahhh, I think the speed dash can be won on 55% and just fly right. Jeff, To be honest I really look for you to be the winner. Call it
an early prediction.

I am thinking of doing the speed dash rules as follows:
$10 entry which garauntees you 2 passes

If you would like to buy another 2 passes that will be another $10

2 more passes? another $10

That way if you put yours up first and run a 165 like Shawn will, then Jeff comes along and hits 169... Shawn can opt to run again to best Jeffs score.
But once Dave runs his 182, chances are the rest will pack up and go eat the Sat night Dinner they also paid $10 for.

Oh by the way in 2 days I got in Horz Hobby worker prizes, JR28X Tx and a new YS 115 WS.

I will run last so you can just start collecting 20.00 from everyone else that will need another 4 passes before they give up.

Thanks Marty, I've been working on them all day. Primer should start on Monday and then color by the weekend. I will have some new pictures soon. The skin hinging looks to be a real winner. At this point the hinge line is finished but the surfaces have not been separated at the root yet. That will happen after the primer stage. Just finishing up on the ailerons and then the build is done. JR's is coming along as well. That dude builds fast, his may fly before mine LOL.
