James Smith, Tim Sorenson, Steve Nickerson, James Gale, Ray Brindos and Noel Howl all lost planes. It is always bad when you lose a good plane. Most went in with bad air.
JR took 3rd in gold and Dave took second in gold.

I went to fast in one round and then had a stupid cut. the vendetta is way to fast for gold on 60%. one race I lapped the guys twice. The cut was bad decision on my part as I was a lap ahead and then went way long couple of times and went to pass someone and pulled to early.

Joel Gooch took first. I did take 2nd in silver and i think 5th in gold. the spitfire did a 1:31 the first race with a win on 45%. I had fueled it with 60% in prep for the next heat but saw everyone running around 1:32 times so i switched to the Vendetta. I won that race with a 1:27 or 1:28.
The times had issues almost every race. I think I was in four reflys because they had no times.
The spitfire was fast on the course but was slower than some of the other planes but they just couldnt turn well. I think I could have done well with the spitfire but they said I couldn't switch back to it so I couldn't race it again. The spitfire will do very well and I am thinking we will see 10 or more in gold at the next race lol

Congrats to Joel. Yes Jeff that is the common rule with using back ups. No switching back or lending to someone else once its raced.

I told you these new Vendettas are way too fast. You ran it on 60%. Youre nuts...

30% is perfect and you will still break out.
I think Im putting a 110 in mine

Youre right Dave 30% would probably have been too much. Maybe some YS 20/20

Congrats on your podium finish sir!

Times were slow for most planes during the race. i ran it on some 30% heli fuel on thursday and did a 1:30 with no one on the pylons and starting time as I crossed the line. For saturday and sunday I would have needed 45 or 50%. I thought about running it all out but that would have just cost me points for the year. Points is what I want. I think I could have dropped in to the high teens with it but will never know. I think it was a second faster per lap than the majority of the planes and most were in the 1:29-1:31 range. so take ten seconds off of that and might be close to what it could have ran which would have put it in the 1:19 to 1:21 range. i really wanted to get a time out of it but I want points also.

My wing got a little banged up, she is almost totally back together now, I should have her done this weekend.

Hot dang Marty! Thanks for the update. I'll swim my fastest and be there with bells and whistles on ol' partner! I am trying to convince Right Rudder Ray into coming down. I hope you win a trophy Marty! Supper at the field with fellow warbird flyers sounds like a hootenanny, to be sure.

Dean
You will love the races. Stiff competition in every heat, some serious racers in this event for sure. I did get your entry already as well. I would love to see Ray ray come and race again. We are bringing in an olympic size swimming pool for the challenged and are asking you to lead the program.

Marty, just to clairify. Im assuming that because APC is sponsoring the dash for cash that we are to run stock APC props. At least I feel that is the respectful thing to do especially if we want Roberts continued support. Not to mention the safest route as well.

you have to run a in production APC prop but it doesn't have to be stock. you can re-pitch all you want. You have to be very careful when you repitch though as do it wrong and you will throw a blade and could lose your plane.
Funny how many people don't like my prop lol. I talked with Robert and he was fine with me making a Carbon one for testing. The props out there now in production in stock form will not get you over 200 on a four stroke. I have been doing a lot of testing and have lots figured out on the YS 115 now and some of my testing hasn't been done at SAMs either. I will be going down to talk with Robert tomorrow and see if he would be interested in making a prop. There is a problem and is valid. The speed dash may only have a limited number of people enter this one race. So lets say 30 people enter and they each buy two props. IE Robert would only sell maybe 100 props so it isn't worth the cost and time to make a new mold for one. So if next year there will be a speed dash then I might be able to talk Robert in to making a new prop.

I will say that a 18" pitch prop will win the event if on a clean airframe and a prop will hold up. One other thing to look at either good or bad I haven't figured out yet is for a prize of 600 dollars is it worth it to make a one off airplane for this? I will tell you that my 12x16 prop was turning 12,500 or so in the dive and around 11,500 or so on the level. So when you repitch those props be careful, and dont run them around anyone. Please be safe out there as we dont need any problems and APC doesnt recommend repitching these props. If you dont have any experience doing this dont try it.

For those with a clean airframe I think the best prop for speed for the YS 115WS will be the 14.5x14.5N APC. In my testing that has shown the most speed in a stock untouched prop. This is also a safe way to do this. Try to shoot for 9,900 to 10,200 on this and on a clean airframe should net you 190.

If want more info call me and we can discuss even though you're the competition I will give my secrets out, well a few of them.

Well said Jeff, Although along with the prop, WING will play an even bigger part is what will or won't go 200mph. I think you will like the 11.5X18 even more.

I have in possession 2 = 14.5X14.5 already that I plan to test with.
The purse is $500 I believe
Im not expecting but about 10-15 entries in this speed dash. $10 entry fee gets you 2 passes. If you werent happy with your run, you can pay another $10 and get 2 more
Keep in mind your speed dash plane is also your race plane or back up plane.

All props must be APC retail props

Feel free to modify as needed.
May the fastest set up win.

Just submitted my entry. Check is in the mail. Who let Rusty enter silver?? LOL

Marty, just a suggestion. Maybe move the pilots list to the first page so it won't get buried and include entry info such as how much and where to send and a link to SAM's page for E registration.

Only if you can figure out a resin system that would stick : ). In all seriousness, the current plastic matrix that Robert uses has a glass fiber in the plastic. At one time Fred made some props that replaced those glass fibers with carbon fibers. Seems if the sales were good enough that Robert might do the same. I imagine a 14" prop would run 50.00 to 60.00 using the basis that a 9" CF prop was running about 20.00 vs 4.00 of standard prop. They were considerably stiffer and lighter.

Hey Marty,
Does Fresno have power? Shade structure? Do they allow our own tables? canopies? portable generators? camping? trailers?

Thanks Bro
Kimo

Hi Kimo, Yes Fresno has power that is generator run. I CDed a 3-D event there for 5 years. The event CD must provide Gas for the large generator. TONS!!! of tables and the entire pits are shaded. Much larger than Ash Creek. Camping is fine.

Kimo,
The Generator will be for course use only and registration needs. If anyone needs one for personal you will need your own. I will have power Kimo and you are welcome to it and anything else I have sir.
There may be shade, but as usual for our large gatherings bring your own canopy and chairs and table to be safe
Dry camping is allowed, I will be in my motor home, as will many others, this is part of the fun of racing - night time fellowship and smack talking.
I will also have table and chair for you to do registration, but in the pits, many will need to be self sufficient as entries are already coming in quickly.

I also heard the event CD is only allowing pilots who have previously won a pylon event to pit in the regular pit area. All other pilots must pit directly across from this area on the other side of the runway. If you win a heat at this event you are then allowed to come back over, unless you are flying an Italian type plane. In which case you must remain on said opposite side as that will be the closest to the finish line you will probably be for the entire event.

On a side note, how about JR and Richard getting 75+ entries at the Trashman race - incredible job guys!!!
