Warbird Champioship Event

Okay, "Air Raptor" is Jeff Robinson. Looking forward to meeting you, sir. Is this the same Jeff Robinson that works for Aerojet? Would love to know.
Changing props... I once put a Sundowner 50 on floats and it was the 2nd coolest thing I ever flew (the first is a clandestine persuasion).
Changing props again.. ran in to Gerald Meux in Hesperia yesterday and he is planning on attending albeit maybe not flying. I told him to reconsider.
Life is short...fly while you can!!!

Well we made it through the Trashman/YS race. What a great job they did.
While there a guy asked me a question which I will answer here for every ones info:
"Does a pilot have to enter the race in order to be able to do the speed dash?"
This is a great question.
The answer is Yes
Your speed dash plane must be either your primary race plane or back up plane.
The speed dash is for us racers and bragging rights to who has the fastest race plane, not the fastest speed plane.
2 planes are allowed per class.
One of these must be your speed dash entry.

I am hoping to get 3 rounds in on Sat and 2 on Sun morning. Then break for lunch and run trophy races after that. If we can get these rounds in then I will consider allowing a throw away round using your 4 best rounds to determine who makes the gold trophy race on Sun afternoon. This decision will occur prior to the event starting. Once we are running we wont make any changes to the venue.

It was pointed out to me that in the rules there are "no throw away rounds" So this year we will stick with that. After this race we will monitor the rules and make any necessary or desired changes for next years race. We are too close to the race date for this year so we will stick with what is in place - sorry for the confusion. Remember we are trying to merge 3 race entities into one here so some things might be different than what you are used to. Even some planes might be on your "black list" but are allowed here. We are here in the interest of merging 3 groups together - don't let that train of thought escape you please.

OK Marty,
You opened the can of worms, so here goes.
What do you mean by planes being on a black list?
Are they reasonable representations of Warbirds and/or Reno Unlimited racers, or aren't they?
I know this is your baby, and I will attend and participate unless I get myself in too deep here and make you 86 me.
Are the rules going to be "bent" to garner more participation?
If so, then when does it stop?
The participants should be willing to play by the rules if they want to play, no?
I'm not talking about counting rivets and sizes of air scoops.
I'm merely suggesting that the planes don't need to be deviating from scale lines all that far to be competitive in this type of racing.

I can't speak for other pilots, but earning the championship would feel a little hollow if I won it based on a significant mistake being overlooked due to a "throw-away" round. In my opinion, a true champion will "bring it" the MOST consistently throughout the ENTIRE contest.
Just my opinion. (I'm sure it will come back to "bite me" in some way.)

Tom,
I understand your concern on scale outlines. I also hope you understand my position and intent of the race. It is with hopes to merge 3 different venues of warbird racing. Sams, RCPRO and Triangle Series. With that in mind, I am allowing what was legal in their venues so they can come race. I have already omitted the electrics in RCPRO and hurt plenty of feelings there. Many in RCPRO are still using the Phx Strega not allowed in Sams. But to be able to be fair to this merging group, I'm allowing these planes. I'm not "bending" any rules. I am creating an event that allows all 3 clubs to use the majority of the planes they already allow. Its that simple. I wont 86 you, but I will defend my position without change as the "Intent" is and always has been to merge the 3 groups with what they have.

The major Pylon championships all allow for throw away rounds. The reason is more based un uncontrollable issues than mistakes a pilot make. Like weather, times due to temp changes etc...
In order to do this we would need lots of rounds. For every 5 or 6 rounds a throw away is in order. Where we are concerned, it would be a tough call.
So I agree with your ideas, but also agree with the need for a throw away when justified. The difference with this racing we do is the Break Out. So fast times aren't really an issue with us.

My understanding is that there really should be no " Blacklist " If the airplane design has been approved for any of the race organizations that currently run a warbird series then it's going to be approved for Marty's race.
The throw away round I feel has merit. As Ollie said we want to win knowing that we beat the next guy while he is at his best. Having an unfoseeable issue is not when someone is at his best. Yes having your equipment maintained is part of the game but I cherish a win I had to fight for much more then one that was given tO me. IMAC has a throw away round and it has always worked well.

Bert, As stated above it is "Major Pylon Championships". Like in Czech rep this year for F3d they had numerous throw aways. The USRA , when time allows, will allow throw aways. It is more for championship type races which Is why I considered it. How ever, with us not having a B/O and only probably getting 4-5 rounds, it wouldn't be needed.

Racers I have some info on rooms and rates
Im working on rooms so far this is what they are offering
LaQuinta - $124.00
Comfort Suites $129.00
Hampton - $159.00
... Im still trying to get in tough with sales managers to block some rooms and get better pricing, but they are illusive an no where to be found as of yet.
I encourage everyone to bring an RV and stay at the field smile emoticon
