In light of all this macchi hype i figured i would write a poem as well....

once upon a time at a little pylon race
came from a far a pylon ace
no his name wasnt david, or even speed
cause non of their secrets did he need

but from the land of mormons came such a rare breed
who took to the skies and showed em real speed

when the year was done and the trophies handed out,
all david and speed could do was simply pout

they took their 2nd and 3rd place plaques and hung em on their walls
while the Utah racer took his firsts and filled the all the halls

Soon there came a big race, with a dash for cash
speedracer and david once again came in last

David I am glad you are getting a good plane to race, but you boys best bring your varsity game to the champ race, I may have to break out my fast plane. It never raced last year, cause a 1:16 just didnt seem fair.

BOOM the trash truck just passed your house.

Wow, Marty, how did you know that I once lived in Utah? Thanks for the high praise.

LOL you guy keep up with the poetry contest, let us racers work on our airplanes. But if you ladies want we may be able to add a poetry slam at the first SAMs race. I bet we can get Ollie to mix up some Cosmos for you girls.

Speed, I didn't think you would have time for poetry or drinks with all the time that you will need to complete a heat. If it is ok for us faster pilots to land while you are still on the course then we may entertain your idea.

Ok, I'm done.... As Stallion would say no bad JuJu. How about some more Machi photos to get us back on track.

David, welcome to SAMS, they take it easy on no one. Like be thrown to the lions.
In all seriousness you will have a great proven plane and should do well with it.
Just be sure to put a YS in it.

Skids, when you are as famous as you people know all sorts of things about your past.

Shawn, you have mentioned girls a couple times.
- you said you were better with the girls than Skids.
-you're calling us girls now

Seems like this Macchi has you in touch with your feminine side.

You do know what Macchi means in Latin dont you?

The Latin Macchi's were a type of cowboy that would come up into Texas from South America. They were talented horsemen and possessed a skill very much in demand by Texas ranch owners and cattlemen. That skill was to tame or what was currently refered to as " Break " the wild horses or MUSTANGS as the breed of horses were called. The Macchi's were so successful at breaking mustangs that they could easily earn a living traveling from ranch to ranch demonstrating their strength and agility.

Sounds good to me...... too bad that tradition died after the wars.

I just ordered a new speed sensor that JR has that works with the new JR DMSS radio systems we use. It utilizes a simple pitot tube connected to an airline that plugs into a computer module and then plugs directly into the RX. Tells us our speeds live on the TX screen. Hows that for cool?
Now I can test props and actually know what I am running at all areas of the course.

Wow Marty, I hope you didn't hurt yourself coming up with that. Speed telemetry, interesting. You will remove the sensor before racing right?

I never cheat Shawn, my stuff is fast enough. So yes it will be gone.

But it is a nice set up JR is offering to its users. They also have temp sensors, RPM sensors and even more for heli guys as well.

I have the optical tachometer already and the speed sensors are on their way. There is nothing in the rules to keep guys from using them, however, it would be really hard to fly and look down at the transmitter screen to read the real time reporting. I think I'll be leaving mine on board, but just not have the screen active.... we are talking grams here.

Side note, Marty if you need help updating the firmware to support the new sensor give me a call. I figured it out on the XG11 today. Already have the speed feature added to my telemetry display.

Sounds good Skids. I will still remove mine as some might see it as an advantage in judging course - I could see that side of the arguement so Id rather not have to hear it. It will be great for prop testing.

I heard you need two things to win and that is a YS engine and a JR radio. I might have to use the card again and get me a JR radio...

JR is having a promo right now where you trade in your old dsm JR radio and get up to $150 off a new DMSS one. Less of an impact on that card.

I was at the AMA show and got to play with the 28X, it is due in a month hopefully. It is incredible.

I am thinking the 28 might be the one. just have to make the slow switch and buy more receiver. One thing i like about horizon is they have a better repair policy than JR.

So when did this become a JR promotional thread? LOL All kidding aside, I flew JR exclusively from the time they released the Century 7 until they discontinued the 10x. I just wish they still had touch screen. With today's technology there really is no reason to have to use actual buttons and dials. How many of us still use cell phones with buttons? Marty, you have the right idea about your speed telemetry. Some guys could make a big deal out of it. It would make a CDs job much easier to just leave the lid on that can of worms.

Jeff, That is odd what you say about JR repairs as all radios ,JR and SPektrum, are still sent and have been sent to the same place at Horizon Hobby. No doubt HH has great Service, which includes servicing your JR stuff. In fact JR doesnt have established yet their own service repairs. Not sure where that comment came from????

Speed we just love our JR equipment. Both old and new. The new 28X is touch screen all the way and so deep in the programing that I will enjoy it for years. I too still have an older 10SXll touch screen as well as my 12X. I can live with either touch screen or roller.

Speed,
as far as the speed sensor, it will all remain in place as I dont want to be removing and repairing where it was or getting into the RX and redoing that, but it will be innactive on my TX. Ray Brindos was at the show and we were joking about using the telemetry...... " oh look theres 180 MPH, boom theres 0"
Cant really take your eyes off of these gold planes while racing, they are just to fast in and out of the turns.
Though i wont be using it on race day you can be assured I will be taking advantage of this great feature JR offers in testing.

I think I will look at a "cap" to cover the pitot tube as that will eliminate and concerns. I just got thinking about removing the tube and that could be messy.

Would having active telemetry during a heat actually cause any problems? The rules I'm familiar with only prohibit "timing devices", like a stopwatch or countdown timer. If your telemetry only shows speed, I can't see where that should cause any problems. Has anyone expressed concern about telemetry?
