Tony, the speed readout would no doubt be in miles per hour. Someone could easily figure out the straightaway speed needed to get right at the breakout. I myself have no doubt that Marty nor Jimmy would use this to gain advantage during a race however it could easily raise a concern that the CD would have to address should someone make an official complaint during the race. My only concern is to eliminate the possible argument from happening in the first place.

As far as I've seen, there don't seem to be too many Gold racers concerned about staying above the breakout time

Jeff,
The Horizon philosophy regarding service is outstanding! Horizon is the current service center for JR as well. I heard that horizon mirrors the JR repair service model or vise versa. I am sure that you would experience the same level of service if repair or warranty centers ever change.

I dont see the telemetry as a advantage. a perfect lap is 8.5 seconds. you have about 3.5 seconds down the straight. by the time you look down on the transmitter and see your speed you will already be in the next turn. I have figured out what it takes to win now and its in the caller. I would look more into the timers on the transmitters. on my transmitter i can set up a timer and turn the timer on and off with a switch. this timer can be set to vibrate only also. could easily cheat or gain an advantage this way.

Ok maybe back to showing airplane builds. Things have been a little slow, but I managed to get the wing mount hard points in and have the slot cut for the wing joiner. The joiner is 1/16 hard vertical grained balsa that has been bagged with 5.7 ox carbon fiber. As you can see the joiner mates up with the back of the spars that are carbon fiber capped. The spars run full span. Makes for a stiff but light wing.

Tony,

we all do make a serious effort to stay above B/O, at least at the start of the race

I only broke out once last year. A personal best for me. I may have to drop down to 20% nitro with the new airplanes to keep them above 1:25.

Thanks, I fly with the Victorville guys here in so-cal for RCPRO, And this is my 3rd Phoenix strega that I've modified. My first was done up as the RB-51 Red Baron with the big rudder, flew great in the bronze and even held its own in the silver one time at speedworld. So I decided to give this one a serious upgrade just to see what happens. Just moving up to the faster classes so I can battle it out with all you guys at the Warbird Champ Race.

Jeff and Racer44,

As I read the rules for the Championship Race, there is no stipulation against the Phoenix Models Strega. That stipulation is only in the SAM Series format. Marty's intent was to avoid (as much as possible) disqualifying planes that the various clubs had permitted within their particular individual formats. Racer44, that shouldn't be a problem for the Championship Event . . . so, I look forward to racing with you, as it sounds like you are likely to be competing in Silver (?). Best of luck with your maiden!

I'm seeing some really nice looking planes out there. Question......Is any one building a racer that actually looks like a Warbird?

Our airplanes fit the rules format, an airplane with exact scale outlines would most likely not be competitive in the gold class.

Yes that is a sweet plane race44. Whats your name? I think that plane would be legal even at Sams, with the mods you did. Georgous job.
It will definately be fine at my race.

Dan, the rules call for any warbird with certain criteria attached as well as any plane that raced at Reno. And we encourage unique cosmetic to make it easy on pylon judges. Most have discovered that the full scale pylon options make for more efficient racers.

Race44 what engine you running in that strega?

marty didnt you mix some 89 octane with your glow fuel last time to knock some of the power down in the YS 115? I saw it when you ran 5% nitro in it and ran a 1:13 on the race course.......

Yep, that was me.... wait, what... never mind.

I have all I can do just to break out. In fact I think a few times they only recorded 9 of my laps when I did break out. As so many of my So AZ friends say, "Richard is the only fast guy up there".

I seriously cant wait to see evryone mix it up in this champ race. People will unite and friendships made and many of the old things will pass away and new things will certainly come.
We have needed this for a long time.

Jeff, I think there is an award for the guy that flies the most airplanes at the event as well. If Im not wrong at Redding you flew 10 planes? Your pit was a mad house. I remember asking Richard , "who is that nut", "doesnt he ever rest", "is he on drugs". No one pushes harder than you Raptor. I think you need counciling

Hey there Marty, Its me David jr from the Victorville group. This my third Phoenix strega Mk.1 that I modified, all of them have run with our trusty .52 Magnums. Going by your suggestion about stepping up to Silver & Gold this year which is why at the AMA expo we dropped off our YS110 at Veranos booth for repairs!
