Thanks for putting this event on, again, Loren. Allow me to be the first to welcome you and the rest of the Redding crew officially to The Series.
This really is a top-notch event and was an outstanding weekend both years I was able to attend. As I stated afterwards, last year, "The view of the planes against the background of trees and mountains, the sunsets silhouetting the mountains each evening, and that incredibly star-filled sky at night were worth the price of admission, alone." I'm excited, and hope everyone will come up and further add to the experience.

Only 6 weeks away. I'm getting excited!
I'm borrowing my in-laws new trailer, just bought a new generator for it and just installed an electric brake in my Suburban, so I will DEFINITELY be camping-out again. Have been able to spend much of one day each weekend working on the two new P-47s I plan to take to race at Redding. One is ready cover, now; and I hope to have the other ready to cover by the end of next weekend.
But I need to know two things:
- I want to take my winnings from the Big Kahuna and invest in an Easy-up Canopy to use up there. What do you gentlemen recommend as the best kind to get -- easiest to put up and take down, decent quality, etc.?
- You guys have been awfully quiet, lately. Who else is going to be there? (For example: Marty, you stated it's one of your favorite events, but you didn't state if you planned to make it. I certainly hope you can.)

Ollie,
I have pre registered. I am so tired of driving I have been traveling since Jan every two weeks, but Loren and the gang do a great job and talking to Richard he has twisted my arm so I hope to make it. I left it up to the wife and said if she would go with me I'd go for sure. If not its 50%. Just talking about it got me excited. Then the reality of 24 hrs of driving set in again.
I just hope Sullivan has mechanical gear in that green money shot. He was not a happy camper that weekend last year. Being around Dave when he is not happy makes me not happy
As far as the canopies there are so many that are all so close to ease, BUT my EZ UPS are 9 yrs old, get used MANY times a year and are still going strong, even after being tossed thru wind storms. If you have the extra $ get one of these. There many many others out there that are also good, just not the best.

Ollie, I am glad you are going, I also am going. I have booked the Friday before and the Monday after off work so I can come up get some time on the course and get ready to take home first in Silver. I would like to thank you Ollie for contributing to my winnings I hope you do well and enjoy the race for 2nd place along with JR and everyone else.
Question to Loren, if I register on the SAMs website can I pay when I arrive on the Friday?

Just know I don't plan to make it easy for you. After all, this "Dog" needs another Warbird Special to go with the one he won at the Trashman Race, for his 2nd new P-39 for next year.
So, bring your "A-game" . . .

Hey, no problem, Buddy! I figure it is the least I can do since you donated so generously to my first place winnings, the last two races in-a-row!

Well I pre-registered for both Bronze and Silver and got my room reserved, so I am all set to go. Gonna be fun, but I have a feeling it is going to be HOT!!! I guess I will pick up an EZ up too so me, and my planes, don't melt out there.

I'm currently converting my 115WS to liquid cooling for this race. Hell if I'm having to install a scoop on the Macchi after 5 seasons of racing it I may as well have a functional radiator as well. After 6 uneventful but fast practice flights yesterday I finally registered. See everyone up there.

Should have shown it with a glass of water. I am so gullible!
BTW: When I posted that weather report, I had no idea how close to reality it was. Holy Crap, the temps are just getting stupid now. I am seriously considering bowing out. 1 day in the 100s is tough, but 3 days in a row all day on the black tarmac...."F" THAT!!!

<--- Even with sunscreen, this is what I expect you'll look like after just the 114 degree day on Friday, Jake . . .
Then we get 111 on Saturday, and 108 on Sunday . . . eeww bonus. And it is still going to be breezy, to boot. Yay, can't wait!
