We have close to 40 entries for this years Nats Race- thank you to all who have registered already. The deadline for entering w/o a late fee added is June 24. You can still register after that but the fee has a hefty penalty added on- so get those registrations in by next Friday. I was up in Redding, Ca for a 2 day Warbird race last weekend and saw over 20 planes go in. yet we still have a strong representation at this first time event for the Nats which is a great testimony to the commitment you all have. - Thank you.

Racers, we are getting close to race week at the Nats. Here is some info everyone attending the event will need to know. Be there Friday morning for our pilots meeting at 8:30. Immediately after that will be tech inspections followed by practice. We will stop practice at 11:30. At that time the matrixing will be done and you can put your wing colors on and get ready to start racing at 12:00.
Bronze class, then Silver followed by Gold.
We are hoping to complete at least 2 rounds on Friday
Saturday we meet at 8:00 am for pilots meeting and begin heat racing at 8:30 am.
Once we are done with the scheduled rounds, we will then gather info and pick top 4 pilots in the points standings for the additional trophy race (One race for each class). This trophy race is a winner take all.
The top 4 finishers in the points after the heat racing is done will be the winners of the "over all points"
We hope to have trophy presentation done by 3:00- 4:00 and get you on your way.
Also our races are a bit different. We have 2 sets of eyes on the racing. The flight boss controls the race action and fouls, warnings etc.. We also have another person at the start finish line who watches the lap counters as well as the starts and finishes to confirm with flight boss any decisions needed to be made.

Just an FYI to anyone in Cali or Nevada area that would like to go to the Nats and have there Airplanes hauled out and they can fly instead of drive 7 days round trip. I still have some room in my trailer for about 3 more racers and their equipment. If interested call me ASAP (916) 716-7348. Thanks.

Get your Nats Warbird entry in TODAY. After today there is hefty late fee assessed. We are currently over 40 entries, but know there are more than 10 more who have shown interest and wanting to race. You can still enter after today, but with penalty attached.
There will be tent space provided, Randy Ritch of Ritchs Brew can deliver fuel to the event, you can have your stuff shipped to the AMA Head quarters or utilize Jeff R or Dave S to haul your stuff. There is no reason to not come. This is the Nats. If you are a competitor this is the pinnacle of National racing.

Well here it is in action running some laps. Not sure if it's fast enough for Gold, but goes pretty good. Had a issue as you can see at the end, but the wings are still on lol

Looks really good. I clocked you right at around 9 second laps which is perfect. Couldnt tell if you were going 700' or not. #1 looked long and #2 looked short. Did you get it to idle at 4000 for 10 seconds?
I think you have a good combo there for the needed B/O time.
Good job flying too. Tighten that spinner bolt up just a tad more next time
Im heading to warbird race tomorrow here in Utah and will see how my planes do. Im taking extra ones to test and make sure they are ready. One of them I stripped balsa, glassed and painted the fuse. Need to retrim it and see if it is still fast.
I just started on my 426 plane tonight.
My 422's back ups are ready, and waiting on my primary to show up.
Are you racing other classes too?
Sorry to hear about Scott by the way - so sad.

well timing your laps looks like you will be close for gold if you are on a 700 foot course. Location effects the times a bunch. We can have one place where the planes will run 1:30 on 60% nitro and the next place the plane will only do 1:40 on 60%. You can make it to the races practice some and see what best fits for you.

Thanks Marty! Feels weird not used to standing in the middle. Lol I definitely need some more snug on the spinner, and maybe a touch of Locktite. Yep, the idle seems to be working good at 36-3700 which sounds like zero. It actually idled all the way in landing. Wasn't sure if a Q40 would ever taxi back lol I wish I could put the carb on my Q40 plane, because I never liked turning the fuel off at full throttle. I saw the warbirds you have been building! They are really beautiful! That's great you are running 426 and 422 also. I will also be running those classes. It's a real shock about Scott. This Warbird is the last plane he worked on. Unfortunately he passed away the night before the first flight. Crazy! Losing both Dave English, and Scott so unexpectedly within this past year. Gotta be thankful for every day!

That's good advice Airraptor. I'm gonna try and get there early for Friday's session. I know you have a real handle on all kinds of performance planes also. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how fast it is. I messed up today, because I flew my Q40 first. I know I don't have much chance against the experienced Warbird Racers, but I just want to have some fun without out being lapped to bad lol

that spinner looks awesome. lol
When I heard of Dave it was like, wow !! Then A friend told me about Scott. I had an opportunity in Phx to put a bid in on Daves AR6. He was a great asset to pylon. So this warbird you were flying was Scotts?
Remember registration is early friday. We are also having a pilots meeting before we race friday. I am shooting for 8:30.

Dave was incredible guy as well as a one of a kind builder. I don't know if you had seen his Bardaul Toni/AR6 build forums on RC Groups, but they look/fly amazing! That was a blast to be involved with him on those. On this project, I picked out the model, and the engine combination. I was trying to use as much equipment that I had, since I was on a budget on this one. When I showed it to Scott he loved it, and had some great ideas on how to make it stay together. He was excited to see if it would work, and went right at it.

Jeff, Here is the specs on the model. I believe the firewall structure could probably handle the power, but I'm not sure of the extra weight. She is pretty small weighing in at just under 5lbs. I couldn't believe it didn't take a click of trim. It really flies nice at speed, and lands like a trainer. Would make a fantastic sport plane if nothing else.

1:30 for Gold.
(The 1:25 breakout time was SAM rules for the last couple/few years. Even the most recent version of SAM rules reflect the change back to the 1:30 Gold breakout -- as well as 2:00 for Silver, and 2:30 for Bronze.)

Thank you for the info Ollie. That is a lot more promising. The 1:25 would have probably taken me out of the game. I sounds like I still need to squeeze out some more speed in the next couple of weeks to be competitive at 1:30. I have zero room for error with 9 second laps. Kurt
