All Racers
the AMA flight safety declaration page will be on site and each pilot is required to sign this, AND have your planes inspected PRIOR to any test flying at the AMA site.
We will begin this process right around 8:30 Friday Morning. Test flying will end around 11:30 with racing beginning at noon
Just like at the Champ Race in Fresno last year we will issue each pilot a small sheet with every necessary point of requirement for racing and you cannot fly until this sheet is filled out 100%.
Either myself or Bert will have these ready for you to begin the process hopefully as early as thursday evening at the site.

Ok guys this is an official reply from the AMA on when we can fly:
Wednesday will prob be a NO at least until after 5pm as the Pattern guys will be on both sites 3 and 4. Thursday and Friday we should be able to use site 4 and maybe 3 if Pattern finishes up. But this must be ok by head quarters.
So there you go. No one fly NO ONE unless you check in with Yolonda at the head quarters first AND only if you get the green light. It sounds like another site in the evening might work until Friday AM, which is our first real date, this is site 4. BUT pattern is on both sites so dont tread on their event with our loud planes. They really need to hear their engines and it is a team selection year so they will be intense.
I am not getting in until thursday mid day probably, so I have asked both Jeff R and Dave S to inspect planes and have that part done for me. If practice is needed for break in and trimming etc, perhaps there are other club fields in the area?
Looking forward to seeing you guys there. 42 entries so far and hopefully more to come. Gonna be a great event.
Thx to YS Engines, APC Props and Ritch's Brew for their support .

Just got off the phone with Randy with Ritch's Brew and he said to call him with any and all your fuel needs and he will deliver the fuel right to you at the event. Any nitro% and oil combo you desire.
Randy is and has been the official fuel sponsor for the pylon community at the Nats for quite a while. His fuel is well prooven and he is a racer like us too.

So I've started my prep work for the Nats in Muncie Indiana. Doing write ups on warbirds, engines, and specs. Also doing a write up on me and a shocking number has a appeared... I've been on the mic for roughly 2000 races... on a typical day we run 40 races. That happens 5 to 6 days a year. I announce 90 percent of it. I also added in Giant Scale 4 years a go. Plus single individual races that don't do anything for total points. Well it comes out to over 2000... plus this year is my biggest year to date... I can't believe that number! Insane!

Yes, my dad was very active in the Sacramento area for years. He is the reason I got into RC and we were able to fly and race together for many years.Since I am still at it I guess it stuck.

Gary,
Yep I agree..... we wouldve liked to have been after the Q40 races were done, we feel we couldve gotten even more of them, as well as the C40 guys. We didnt pick the dates and are just glad to have a chance to be there at this years Nats. The big problem is the duration of pylon. So many events (6) stretched out over 7 days, makes it a long time for guys to come and stay. Few have that much vacation time and or funds.
You could come race on Friday ?
There were some other club 40 guys who said they were going to do that....
Its just tough to get the schedules all synced for everyone.
I would've liked to have seen you again - its been a long time since the USRA days.

Yes Marty a lot of racing squeezed in those days! Dan Jr. your self and all the help putting all this together are doing an excellent job! I’m flying in on Thursday and will be coming over to watch! I will be putting 2 or 3 war birds together for next year for sure!

I dont think we can limit the number of racers since an AMA event. Warbird racing is just plain cool because anyone is competitive and you get to race against some big names in the sport like Richard Verano, Marty Flood, Doug Killabrew, Dave Sullivan from the 3D world, Chip Hyde comes to some of the races when he isnt flying pattern, Tetsuo from Japan will be here and many others. Not many forms of competition can you race the big names and have a equal chance of beating them. If you can get a warbird together in time come and race it.

We currently have 43 entries our first year.
With only social media advertising and word of mouth.
Cant imagine what it could be with real promotion
lol
minimum entries needed - I was told we need 15 pilots
Limiting max entries- is not an option needed
The 3 pole group in Phx has 80-90 entries and in 2 days gets like 6 rounds.
They are an organized group, so we may not see that high of a number of rounds, but we can get close
If we see numbers crazy high, we would probably prove to the AMA we need more days to properly and successfully have these races.
Numbers are what they see.
Pylon is already the second most entered discipline at the Nats I believe. I think control line is the only group with more numbers.
Warbird is definitely an exciting style of racing. There is a learning curve, but the group of guys doing it in Sacramento/Redding area and the RCPRO groups of Az, Ut, Ca are always helpful in that curve.
If we can get the timing of the warbird event next year at the Nats, to happen after the Q40 guys, AND not on the same day as the cub 40 guys, i think we could easily see another 10-20 pilots, some who may enter 2 classes.
I wouldnt be surprise if next year the entries are closer to 55 or even 60.

Mike, I knew your father very well back in the 80s. He was a very good friend of Don Swanson who taught me to fly. Been at it for 34 years now. Lee. Don and I were on the Capitol barnstormers out here in Sacramento.
Lee always talked about you and you seemed to have done your father proud
