I've got my 20cc 59" wingspan version about ready to test fly. I used a DLE 20 with IBE and a single A123 powering the plane. It seems as though my AUW will come in at about 7 1/2 lbs.

Spoke with Gerry at Giant Models (HUGE thanks Kerwin51 !!!!!) and they have not only the subject plane, AKA the ''20cc'' version, but also a 30cc 73'' and a 100cc which must be that german one we see in the videos. All are made by the same Chinese company, and all are ongoing models. The 20cc (ours) is already in, but the others are coming February. The smallest one, ours, has the highest wing loading, which would explain the difficult flying characteristics, although having reviewed all the vids, some seem to fly this baby with no issues other than somewhat tricky landings due mostly to the no-spring gear. All the Giant models ones come in the Texaco scheme according to their website.
Nex, I'm about to pull the trigger but let me know if you want to trade. I'd prefer your paint scheme.
Also, Id love to know how much the airframe weighs. I keep hearing refernces to ''light build'' but then I see 8.5lb porkers. Can anyone weigh their airframe?

Mine weighs about 13.5 pounds. But that's because I swapped out the tiny stock wings in favor of 1,000 sq inches worth of "lift" from a Great Planes RV. Then I hung a Saito 170R3 radial on the firewall , and hand crafted and painted my own fiberglass cowl. This winter's (as yet incomplete) projects include mounting the wheel pants to the robart struts and rounding off the square wingtips to improve the look. I'm building the 59'' version, but I'm pretty much stuck on the wires holding the landing gear.
I can't figure out where or how the wires attach to the landing gear metal rod/axle. doesn't seem to
locate the correct hardware, if any, to fasten to. Just to be clear, after the wires enter into the wheel pants,
where the actual wheel is, where/how do the wires attach?
If anyone can please explain or even better post some pics, it'll be great.

Hello, Irecently purchased teh 59" GeeBee R3 and am having a heck of a time figuring out how to install the tailwheel without doing some modifications. The manual isn't much help. Thanks!

Anyone still following this thread? If so, I decided to pull my Donut Models v2 ARF from Hobby Lobby out of the attic and put it together. I was able to find the online assembly file for the v2, but of course, it's virtually useless. I am trying to locate the hardpoints for the wire bracing. I have decided to use streamline aluminum tubing in place of the wires, as it will still look "period correct" (even for a fantasy design) and be a lot easier to assemble and disassemble vs the wires. But I still need to locate the wing hardpoints. They are not noted on the v2 assembly sheet and are not obvious from a careful inspection of the wings i.e. no "dimples" in the covering, etc.
If anyone has a copy of the v1 assembly sheets OR if you happen to know where the hardpoints are located, I'd really appreciate the help.
Since this design is probably pretty marginal in directional stability, I will be using a FrSky S6R stabilizing receiver in hope that it will damp out some of the "squirreliness".

My project, an update. I framed the GBR-3 as in this Forum but now I'm making a change.
I'm removing the Novarossi Rex 57R, this engine I will sell. I'm replacing it with an 25-16 electric motor. Yes, there will have to be some major changes. I'll be starting the conversion soon.
Here's the model as it looks today.
