The Sac guys are great, thats why I make the drive to hang out with them. Thought I would throw up some pics of my gold bird again now that it has been test flown. I estimate around 140 with the 3 port Rossi that has unknown run time on it. Really looking forward to seeing what it does with the brand new 5 port engine. Threw it on a scale too, 6.6 lbs

Flew the new engine today. Wanted to keep the load light so I ran an APC 9.5X8 pylon prop. I was surprised how fast it was going even though I unloaded it enough to get past the pipe timing. The length the pipe is set I really need to keep it in the 17,000 RPM range. Next time out I am going to try a 10X9.

RE: 2011 race planes
Got a few more flights on the Strega morphing to a Stiletto. Got balance where I wanted it and was able to take all the lead out of the nose: Just 3 0z total weight over the minimum for .46 modified so I should be able to get to the limit after a few more mods to get it more like Stiletto (smaller canopy, remove scoop, reduce and sharpen lines on tail feathers).
Took the .75 Mustang down from the rafters and flew that as well. Just love the way these stock .75's fly so I'll probably enter stock at Fresno too.

Both looked to be flying well Joe. What about Sac the week before Fresno? Looks like I will be missing Fresno. Got the IMAC bird all dialed in and the sequence is coming together. I was thinking, Ihave a spare Rossi you are welcome to try, just a suggestion. My silver Macchi is dialed but I still have some engine tuning and propwork to do on the gold Macchi. I'm convinced that I need a 9.5X9.5 N prop. Problem is nobody makes them. I picked up a couple wood 11X10 props and am going to try to remember how to whittle props LOL. Only been 30 years ago that I raced Q500 where we were allowed to modify props.

RE: 2011 race planes
Joe,
What airframe are you using in the 75 class, specifically what engine and what course are you guys running on and what times are you running with your setup. I am wondering how close your "75 class" is the the RCPro Warbird Silver Class that we run here in So. Utah, Arizona and Socal?
Thanks
Slim

Hi Slim,
The detailed rules are at[link=http://www.rcyplonracing.com]www.rcpylonracing.com[/link], but I think I can answer what you are looking for.
There are a range of arfs that are allowed unmodified including World Models and VQ.
OS, Tower and Supertigre .75 unmodified except removing the muffler baffle are engines allowed. 95% or more are running the OS including myself.
15% nitro fuel. (OS's don't like more nitro anyway with stock compression).
I would say about 80% in the races are one of the World Models Mustangs. They all share the same wing but some have fibreglass fuses (i.e. Dago Red, Voodoo).
Mine, the Rockwell variant, is the wood fuselage version.
Others that have competed are the Zero, the Corsair, Spitfire and hopefully Kevin will get his Tempest done.
We don't time our races but I have taken the exact same configuration on 15% nitro to the SAMs races which are timed with breakouts.
I am not sure of their distance between pylons so hopefully one of the SAMs guys can chime in, I think its the same as yours but not sure.
Flying a relatively tight course (i.e. not trying to go extra long and tight enough that I have had a cut in some heats), on heats where I did not cut and had a decent start I was running between 2:00 and 2:10.
Mine plane/thumbs is not the fastest of these .75's. The fastest are probably 6-12 seconds better than that.
Bottom line, these Mustangs are very good silver planes where break out time is 2:00 (Sac has lowered their break out times below 2:00).
I think some of the draggier ones may need a thrust muffler to be competitive in Silver.
Hope that helps.

RE: 2011 race planes
To add some stuff,
I have flown the Zero in the 75 Warbird Class. The airplane is alittle bigger and heavier. I had to really push the plane around and as hard as I have flown it, it isnt competitive with the Mustangs or others.
The Spitfire which I have flown, to big and slow.
The Corsairs I have been flying for about 3 years now in the 75 Warbird class. The Corsair matches the mustangs in speed, but the turns are not there. If you pull to hard on the corsair, it will snap. I have to start my turns earlier and hope people make mistakes. I have done very well with the corsair, but that means you have to peg the pylons and make no mistakes. I flew up in the Silver class with the stock Corsair and did well for what I wanted to see. Even though I had a few cuts, it was in the 1:50 range, so if I went around the pylons, it would make a silver plane, but again...smooth and perfect flying.
The Tempest is on the board. Just need to finalize some stuff. I glued the flaps so I dont have to run additional servo and worry about another surface to move. It is light in weight. Should be interesting.

RE: 2011 race planes
Thanks guys exactly what I am looking for. I have a WM Rockwell that I am playing with, I have a SuperTigre 75 that I am going to try on it. We aren't restricted to stock engines or mufflers so I will try it with stock muffler and get a pipe if needed.
Where should I start at with props??
