Century Long Ranger 50 Build thread !!
Hi,
Seems that 2010 & 2011 are the years of Bell Helicopters for me...rsrsrs !!, Last friday a friend ask me to mount this Long Ranger by Century, the mechanics are the well know T-Rex 600 ESP with Flybarless head ( Align 3G Flybarless Stabilizer). In a week I will start another Bell ( from Century too) the 222 with lot of details.
Last year (2010) I mounted 3 Bell's:
Giant Bell Jet Ranger III from Robbe
600 Size Huey UH-1 by Smart Models
60 size Huey UH-1 by Century
I will post the progress of the mounting of lights, fuselage parts and mechanics in this order, no scale details this time, just the heli out of the box....
I'm very impreassed with the quality of this fuselage, lot of details, excelent painting, I liked specially the airfoils on the boom, the people of Century did a good job on this last.
Sadly my friend do not order the scale landing skids, so I will use a stock from Align 3D helis until arrive the scale ones from CenturyRC.
First a few photos of all the parts before start mounting the fuselage lights system...
I started with the tail light, I remove the cap easily with a modellers knife, then make a hole with the Dremmel, I make another hole in the reinforcement where you fix the tail into the fuselage to pass the wire.
I sanded the rear end of the Led to better fix, no way to place the Red Cap if do not do this...
Continue....

That looks like a great project. How do you find the detail and quality of the fuselage?

...continuing...
...after shape and weld the Led wire and fix the Led and Red cap in place I fix the vertical tail fin to the fuselage with two 25x3mm screw and nut.
Next step is mount the Led's in the horizontal stab/vertical fins and fix them to the fuselage, I like the work that Century does on this, a litle bit of work but the results is a strong mount.
The vertical fins do not have transparent plastic in the navigations light house, so I opted to drill and use the Led to replace this, I open the holes with the Dremel using 2,5mm drill and low speed to avoid damage the fin, after open a hole I used a modeller knife to shape the fin to better fit of the Led...

I like a lot the details and painting, but nothing new here, Century always does a good job in the painted fuselages, only miss the scale landing gear...but the owner will order next week.

I agree. I have done a number of Century scale helis over the years, and found all of them to be top notch.
I just finished a project right now, next week I will start the Bell 222 ( Century too), this I bought past year, now is his time heheeh!.
Btw... another great fuse by Century,

Next step is fix the horizontal stabs+vertical fins to the fuselage, I like the way of Century to fix and reinforce the stabilizers, the best I seen...
I do a litle modifications to the manual installation, I cut the plywood joiners to better fix inside the fuselage, easy to make, the photo speak for itself.
DON'T FORGET to make a hole in the stabilizers base BEFORE glue them in place ( to pass the wires of the Led's) .
