Vario UH 1D
Well today I finally got the nerve........
I've been working on my UH since this summer as my next scale competition project. During the late summer and early fall I started fitting the wood work, prepping the mechs, and doing my anal rounds of measuring, dry fitting, measuring, and more dry fitting. This late fall and beginning of winter I started premantly securing parts and over the past week re-fit the mechs, set the boom, and installed the electronics.
At 5:40 PM CST she hovered for the first time as a scaler. Today was the first time I've started the motor since I quit flying the heli this summer. It ran like it always had. As of yet my doors are only hinged and they stay in place using the working handles. I don't have my magnets mounted yet and expected the doors to have some wobble to them, not so. The heli is just as smooth as a scaler as it was when it was in pod n boom form.
I'm glad I took my time with the build and made sure everything was as close to perfect (for me) as I could get it because the smooth hover this evening was totally rewarding.
The only problem I noticed after my post flight was that my torque tube bearing needs to be oiled and I will have to richen the motor some as it was sounding a bit lean for the cold winter weather.

Did somebody say pictures?......
The shots here of my "Cover of Darness" test flight. I was so anxious to test fly it I turned on the flood lights in my back yard and took it up and had my wife get a couple of shots. The other are of some add on trays I built to hold my receiver and gyro where they would be easy to get to. Joe at East Coast Scale gave me the idea.
As I get the others resized to fit the forums I will post them as well.

The male figure is from 21st Century Toys and the female is from Blue Box toys. She's part of the Cy Girls edition. Since I was modeling a police heli I needed police figures. The male was easy to find, the female took some searching.
For a pilots you can check out www.goodstufftogo.net and www.actionfigure2000.com
The figures are sometime expensive but very detailed. McCleod, the female figure came with three sets of hands, police hat, sunglasses, 6 guns, knee pads, and a stand, the male figure came with a vest, detailed helmet, and gun.
