RE: Lama 30 converted to Lipo Power (Video)
Hi G2Loq,
congratulations on a superb machine. The emitted sound is very realistic and gives the impression that one is viewing a 1:1 heli.
I'll send send you my address by PM and you can ship it to me immediately.
Just a couple of questions.
Is this a pre- or post build conversion?
What is the max flight time you have achieved?
How many $$ did you invest in the conversion?
Once again, a fantastic model. Just wish it was mine.
Regards.
Karl.

Hello Karl,
ok, send me your address, I already have the box for the shipping
Have also a look on my RunRyder gallery at http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/g...?script=Lama_E
It is a post build conversion. I ran this heli stock with 2 blades and an OS 30 motor. Only one flight. Too noisy and too much oil/smoke for me...
After the electric conversion still with 2 blades, I was able to fly this Lama during 18 minutes with 2 x 6s2p 4000 mah plugued in parallel. Then, just as a 6s4p 8 A.
With 3 blades, I had to increase the rotor speed because of the load and to reach the same head speed. The consumption is also really higher without flybar and with 3 gyros. I can fly it now with 3 blades for 9-11 minutes.
The electric conversion cost was around 1200$ with one set of batteries and the 3 blades conversion, a 500$ more.
Here is the detail I wrote one day ago for a guy on youtube before to learn I was limited to 500 characters You will see that the combo Motor-ESC is "made in germany".
- Hirobo Lama 30 Kit with 3 rotor head (the regular kit is "2 blades and paddle" and you will need only one Gyro): 1 000$
- Motor Hacker C50 19XL: 300 $
- Speed Control Kontronik Jazz 55-10-32: 269$
- 3 Gyro Futaba GY 401 : 150 x 3= 450$
- Servo for the tail Futaba S9254: 100$
- 3 servos Futaba S9255 for the cyclic: 300$
- Receiver Futaba R 149DP: 130$
- Accessories (belt, extinguisher, emergency rotating light, antenna): 150 $
- 3 NHP Razor carbon blades 550mm: 120$
- conversion mount + clutch adaptor: 150$
- Copper and solder for the basket (that hold the batteries): 50$ without the time...
- Bec 5 V: 30 $
Programmable Light Controller from Helitronix: 55 $
Leds including the 1 Watt flood light from MaxxLight: 120$
Batteries: 2 x 6s2p 4000 mah from Thunder Power: 2 x 269= 538 $
(but you better need 2 packs if you want to have fun, then count: 1076$...)
You will also need a charger, a power supply 25A and a balancer for... charging the batteries (350-500$)
And of course a transmitter, mine is a Futaba Super 9CHP: 300 $
Job paint including the air brusher, compressor, primer, paint and clear: 400 $
Hope that can help and thank you for your comment

Man those are some sweet heli video's on that site and those guy's sure do know how to fly. It makes me wanna get into the heli game, but I know it takes years of pratice to be able to fly like those guy's....but that was breath taking to see

There's people that pick it up in months and there's people that take years to progress to figure 8s, it all depends on the person and thier ability to finance crashes.
Nice Llama! I've long felt electric was the way to go for scale, turbine like sound and no worries about paint type and fuel proofing and no mess to clean up. Downside of course is flight times and cost.
