    Kelly, nice job on those hinges. Your testing is called destructive physical analysis or DPA. It's a very common method to qualify a part for use in the aerospace industry. Byron used to use brass tubes to extend all their Robart hinges in their designs and it worked out well. It should further your confidence in your testing. Dan.

    It's a DLE 222. I bought it used at a good price. It's had about 1/2 gallon of fuel thru it.

    Here's a few build pics. The first two are ofthe left elavator. I have the servo mounts in. I decided to mount them the easy way rather than hatched. Being the over weight plane will need inspecting more frequently. This would be faster than a hidden hatch.

    Last pic is of the rudder try in the rear. This is only for "if needed." I would rather have them in the cockpit area with pull/pull so they would be easier to inspect. The rear tray is for if tail weight if needed. I've read that a lot of Chipmont come out nose heavy because of the long nose. With the 222 up front this my make the problem worst. Anyway justt planning for either senario.
    I will get some pics of the rudder setup maybe tomorrow. This week I will be working on hinging the elavators.

    Thanks Dave, I'm building the retract version but with out retracts.

    I planning on building my own Oleo struts. I already have the materials just waiting to get to that point.

    The N13Y was a single place (smaller canopy to pull) and had no flaps. (less to build and 4 extra $100 servos not needed.)
    Do to me not see every angle ( hard to on paper) I put the wing tubes in the middle of the ribs. Now putting in retract would be out of the question if i ever decided to install them in the future. Live and learn.[8D]

    I'm trying to keep this plane cheap!

    Right now I'm working on getting my Corsair wing back together so I can sell it to pay for more Chippy parts. that means the Chippy is on the wall rack for a few more weeks.

    I actually meet Art Scholl, many years ago. In fact he signed his brochure, which I had. I have it inside a book someplace?

    I remember the cover, it had all Art's toys, cars and aircraft, lined up in a "V".

    Hey guys, just to let you know I haven't forgot this thread/ project. I did take a couple months off, but now I've been back at it for a couple of weeks.

    Sorry I don't have any pictures. My computer is down. I am on my neighbors comp.

    The hor. and vert. stabs are sheeted and the hinges are done. The bottom of the fuse is now sheeted and I have made a fiberglass hatch to give me access to the rudder linkage. I'm working on the wing fillets now. She's really starting to get big!

    I have been taking pix as I go, so as soon as I can get them up I will.

    OK guys sorry for the slow pix, I've finally decided which way to go on the wing fillit. I glued 1/32 ply to the wing saddles tonight. More on that later.

    Also worked on the bottom elavator hinge line. I almost have them both to the same stage now.

    I've been useing some glue from Vogalsang Aeroscale, man this stuff is amazing. Wish I would've had this stuff from the start. You can unclamp it in 5 minutes. Much faster than Titebond III.

    Also shown is my 7" wheels. Still haven't got use to the size of these babies. However I will have to make some new center hubs/bushing for the rims. The stock ones wear out fast.

    I think I've decided how I'm going to do the fillets. Nothing glued yet. I'm going to have to sand down the wing hold down reinforcement block just a little to clear. There will be an extra 1/8 lite ply former between each 1/4 L/P one. so far so good.


    I also started the cowling plug tonight. I've never done this part before. So I hope I'm doing it right. I having a hard time finding the best tool to cut along the formers with. I wound up using a hacksaw blade and then truing it up with my trusty rasp.

    I think I have found something that may make the foam easier to cut/shape. After watching a few youtube vids I came up with this. I took my copping saw, installed a wood insulator in one end. I ran a piece of uncoated pull/pull cable to the ends. I can use my 1amp motorcycle charger on 6 or 12 volts to run the cutter. Tests are looking good.


    Here are a few pix done the hard way. It's 18-1/2" tall right now and it will get another 4 to 5 " added to the bottom.

    Looking REAL great.
    Have 14hours air experience time in a RAF Chippy back in the earliy 70's... I was 13 years old at the time!
    Full package, seat parachutes, old well used, canvas masks with throat switches... brilliant.

    One thing that does come to mind... your engine. It's huge... on power.
    In europe they're flying real big scale planes on less engine.
    Any thoughts?
