RE: CAC Boomerang 1:4.5 CA-12
Just got back from a jet fly in at Temora Aviation Museum.
A surprise was the arrival of their CAC Boomerang which put on a bit of an airshow before it landed,
complete with it's distinctive howling sound. - John.

Finally after cleaning, waxing, polishing the mould was ready for the first coal. I use a white topcoat (polyester), the laminate is done with epoxy. A typical combination we use here.
This is actually my first fiberglass cowl ever I am happy with the result, but there's obviously enough to improve.

GOOD NEWS
The mate who did all the building, has maidened and already had already several flights with the boomerang. It does great (can't wait to see it myself) and he only had a bit of trimming to add. He switched on the engine side to a 3W 80. I will possibly post some more pictures and a short video soon.
WE'RE DONE!

Hi Chris. Good to hear the Boomer finally maidened and had several flights. Some more photo's, flying characteristics, and construction detail would be good to see for those of us interested in building the beast.
Any news on when the kit will be available?

Hi Bruce,
thanks for your interest. As for the construction you might read this entire thread, we did a lot of photos and screenshots during both construction and building. My mate ensures, it's a pretty smooth flyer! It's anything else than a beast to fly
I would like to finish the canopy mould first, the "rest" is ready to be shipped. During this built another one was started which is already based on a lot of enhancements. Will keep this updated, as soon as there are news about the kit. Quality first.
The packaging of the entire kit is no problem, but including the cowl is a serious issue I have to think of. There will be a secured way to ship it along.

Hi,
the prototype has actually no (!) additional lead in the front.
Let's wait for the second one, since the first mate added a lot of cockpit features, but those are all pretty close to the CG.
I usually draw and chose material from heavy 6mm air-ply (firewall), to 3mm poplar light ply (formers at the front) and finally 3mm balsa pieces only (nose to back / heavy to light materials) for the tail. This seems to have paid off. Same for the Aichi and Hurricane (actually drawing).
I have not felt asleep, but lost contact to the guy who used to cut my kits and I actually don't have a lasertable or cnc mill so far.

RE: CAC Boomerang 1:4.5 CA-12
Hi,
I think the weight without cockpit details was about 26lbs (24 calculated before I started), the gear was custom made by the pilot's friend. I will arrange a kit gear, as soon as the release is official. The main issue about that is delivery time, which is usually longer then cutting the kit itself.
There's a handful of gear manufacturers in Germany which are pretty good. My Aichi Val set was also custom made for my kit, I will ask him for the boomer one as well. The boomer struts are bended, this is a serious pricing issue...

We might cut a bunch of kits for the next building season. Please let me know if you want to join via pm.
Please keep in mind, that my plans are not suited for sratchbuilding and do only come along with a kit.
As for the gear there's no kit gear available so far, you might ask a local friend to setup one, I can provide drawings.
Thank you,
Christopher

Hi Chris
Great thread and a fantastic aircraft you have made there!
I am from Australia and have a mate who is restoring a real CAC Boomerang..I have been looking to build a r/c version for a long time but have never found a kit (until I found this thread)
Is there any update on the availability of the kits?
Regards
Daryl

Hi Chris. There seem to be a few of us from Oz interested in this airframe. I've been waiting on news of the boomer kit for an awfully long time now since contacting you about the beast - is it dead in the water or is there still life in the old bird? Cheers Bruce A

Hi Bruce,
it is still flying, where did you contact me?
I won't post on this extensively since this building blog is done after successful maiden, which is some time ago already.
Feel free to write an email

Please note, that this kit is discontinued. I had dozens of request, but no one ever ordered, I will concentrate on different project and not put any more time and money into this kit.
Sorry to say that. Please consider my Hurricane and Aichi Val kits featured here on rcu if you're into quality wood kits of rare warbirds.

sorry I don't send/offer cad files. Train your cad skills, it takes a year or so and you'll have a nice basis to work on.

Hi Guys, I´m the Guy that buildt this Plane. It Flys well, but i lost it because of too low Speed in a turn. But I built it another a Little larger ( wingspan 3,2 m with Moki 215 Radial. You can see a Video in Google " MFC Augsburg" Video .
I gave the Plan to another Guy in Switzerland that build also one with a wingspan of 3 meter with moki 250 radial. He says it flies like on a railwaytrak.
Greetings from Germany Charly
