RE: Buzzard Bombshell Scratch build
Nothing definative yet, but it will be something inline for that period. I have been stareing at the paint chip chart for several weeks now & nothing has hit me as a definate yet. It will be fairly simple though...Gene

( weekend #7 ) My goal this weekend is to get the fuse covered & preferably use one continuous piece of Koverall to do it.

RE: Buzzard Bombshell Scratch build
Fuselage turned out really well, & I got it covered with one piece! Last pieces to cover are the rudder/&fin, Stab & elevator. I finally recieved my 1/8" wire to make the landing gear out of, so thats probably next weekends project....Gene

RE: Buzzard Bombshell Scratch build
(weekend #8), Well I got the tail assembly all covered.( i pre-drilled the holes for the hinges, I'm sewing everything on.) Also i got the 1/8" wire landing gear bent. I'll make a fixture to wire it together & solder it up. Looks like next weekend I'll start putting on the nitriate clear. I believe I have decided on my finish colors. I'm going with forrest green over a Piper cream with an orange pin stripe. We'll see how that pans out!!......Gene ( i was watching a show on the Air & Space Museum & i saw a plane hanging from the ceiling with those colors & i decided right then that was what i was going to use on the Buzzard.)

Beautiful build, Gene. I love seeing a fabric and dope job...it's what I prefer to do myself. Your color choice will look great. Are you going to add a throttle to the McCoy or just let 'er rip and glide it down?

RE: Buzzard Bombshell Scratch build
Thanks Buzzard Bait. I'm not putting a throttle on the Mcoy .35, but i'll start out with short fuel loads for the first few flights. I,m fortunate enough to have a local club with lots of wide open space around so for now thats the plan. If the first few short motor run test flights dont go well i may have to re-think this...Gene

Gene:
My Bombshell is very sensitive to rudder under power; over time I kept reducing the throw. It tames down nicely in the glide. (OS FS 40) It flies on a non-computer radio so expo isn't possible. Any thought of installing a servo controlled engine shutoff in case things get out of hand not probable, but possible.

RE: Buzzard Bombshell Scratch build
Jim, i actually have given thought to useing a throttled motor for the first few flights, then re-install the .35 once i get a feel for how things are. Well for now i, have to get it doped & we have family here from out of state, so i cant hardly dope it while they are here for the weekend[]....Gene

RE: Buzzard Bombshell Scratch build
Yes i have flown my Buzzard! The first flight was limited to a 30 sec engine run & climbed really hard. I added more nose weight & tamed it down. I have replaced the Mcoy .35 C/L motor with a .35 Mcoy R/C motor that has throttle control. The field i fly at has tobacco growing around us and I will wait until its picked for future flights, since i was lucky to get it back onto the field each time and not into the tobacco! Thanks for asking...Gene

RE: Buzzard Bombshell Scratch build
The c.g. on mine is 5 1/2" back from the leading edge. Mine has the old OS FS40 with no nose weight, but it must weigh a whole lot more than the McCoy. It does have a 1/8" packing under the leading edge of the stab - my stab and rudder are banded on like the originals. I think I added the packing after flying it a few times. I also think I may be carrying some down trim in the elevator. I'd have to band on the tail and hook up the pull-pull cable to tell.
My father was a great fan of the Bombshell; I don't know how many he built, most on .60 ignition as free flights. The stab packing was a common practice to correct the glide. They were also flown with the c.g. pretty far back. They glide great that way but don't have much penetration and are touchy under power.
Glad to hear yours had a successful (yes) maiden and am certain you'll get the quirks worked out.

Nice work Gene, it looks beautiful. I also really enjoyed seeing your whole collection. Love the blue and silver Kaos; neat little Jr. Falcon and nice Trainermaster too.

Bombshell
Your Bombshell turned out just beautiful Gene. I just bought a full kit of one and will start building mine right after Christmas. Old Timers are all I fly anymore & I enjoy bringing them all home from the field in one piece. Have some of my builds in my gallery section. Any building tips? Thanks, & happy-safe flying. And since JJscott opened the door to "Dad's" who loved the Buzzard, I am attaching some pictures.
That is my dad "Bud", and the Buzzard is all scratch built and covered with silk.
Dad died a few month back, he is guilty of introducing me to model airplanes!
