Default 3/8" or 1/2" half round rod stock???

Hi, guys!

Iam needing some 3/8" preferrably, 1/2" possibly, 1/2 round rod to help complete my ESM 1:7 scale SBD Dauntless.I wouldprefer ABSplastic as it will easily bend around the cord shape of the wing where the outer wing panels and center panel meet. Sifterbalsa stock would also work but Ihave been unable to find anything suitable.

Any suggestions!?!?

\Thanks!

Have you considered rubber tubing from an auto parts store sliced in half?

Yes. However, slicing something in half with a good straight edge would be very difficult. Also, as the tubing is bent and adapted around the leading edge contour of the wing, it tends to flatten out too much and lose its shape. Not my first choice in materials.

If the two sides are symetrical enough, you could make it out of balsa, not as the final part, but as a form which you can glass. Then you can wax, use some mold release, and make fiberglass parts from it.

Thanks, Bob!

Idecided to go with the half - round, acrylic 1/2" rods. I think these will be able to be heated with a heat gun and easily formed over the wing for shaping without flattening out significantly.

I wanted to really use the ABS material but I just didn't find any in the size Ineeded.

Thanks to all for your input!
