Bashing Laddie's Arrow
#52
Looking back a couple of posts, I've been having fun with this airplane since June 17, 2011. 5 solid years of flying. The closest I've ever come to a mishap is busting the nose strut a couple times due to bad takeoff technique. (It's necessary to hold a lot of up elevator on TO, to prevent the nose from bouncing.)
Got tired of wiping oil off of it, (it was my only remaining glow plane) and tried to sell it, with no success. Converted it to electric. Scorpion HKIII 4025-1100 heli motor on 6S 5800 with a 9x6 prop. Herr Mueller's ecalc says that's good for 100 mph and gobs of thrust. (30mph vertical speed) 6-7 minute flight time, but will cruise around at 50 mph for almost half an hour. Best part is, it's only 1 pound heavier than originally. (7.6 vs 6.6) A lot of that's due to the fact that it's much easier to balance an electric than a glow- I used to have a half pound of lead in the tail. That's gone, now.
Can't wait for a non windy dry day in Buckley.

Hi Bob, I've moved recently so that all of my stuff is stored in card boxes. I will certainly relocate in a bigger house in just a few month where some new projects will start. Glad to see you're still around

Oh, yeah. The last straw was when the clunk fell off the fuel line on my BUSA 1/4 scale DR-1 and I had to dead stick from about 100 feet. Not enough altitude to do that with a triplane, and it suffered quite a bit of damage as a result. I repaired it and repowered it with a Turnigy SK3 6374-192 on 8S and an 22x12 prop. Flies better than it ever did with the glow engine. At that point, the Bullet was the only remaining glow bird, so I went ahead and did it too.
The P-39 is just a sweetheart. I went broke buying that Sierra Giant landing gear for it, but it has really paid off. So I have 5 electric birds: Camel, DR-1, Bullet, P-39C, and an ancient Aerostar 40 trainer, and a tubby full of Lipos.

Hi Bob,
Is the main landing gear you used for the Arrow Bash just stock 90 degree mechanical retracts ? I want to achieve similar results on another design.
Thanks. Great job on all your models.
