Charlie, i think that is about right, I have it balanced about 1/4" behind the point where the back landing gear wire strut attaches to the fuselage.
I took couple peice of wood and made a upside down tee shape, used one peice about 6"x8" as a base and another peice about 6"x10' and attached it at center of the base peice so it stands up, than I set the fuselage just behind the back landing gear on the peice standing up to check the balance at that point.

The most recent picture of my DR-1, had it flying this week powered with a Quadra 75, flew great but it is near impossible not to get the wing tips to scrape the ground. I need to find someone looking to get rid of a Quadra 75 or a zenoah twin for my Nieuport 17.

This is the Q75 I have. I have not run it, but it seems to be in great shape. Turns over freely. Has really nice engine mount. It appears to have been converted to EI, which I have the module. It is C&H

Looks like a good engine, only thing, I threw my elbow joint out in a accident, and now limited to using a spring start motor on the larger ones.

i DID GET A FEW FLIGHTS IN ON THE DR-1 LAST SUMMER, what I found is the J4 Cub has nothing on the DR-1 when it comes to doing ground loops and flipping over.. I am going to install a 3 axis gyro on it for this coming flying season... Has anyone have had experience with using a gyro on a big gasser?.
The airplane will unexpectedly do a ground loop and drop a wing tip on the ground and flip over easy, my plan was to use a hiding hold gyro on the airlon and rudder to keep the plane going straight and manageable on takeoffs and specially landings... What I found on hiding hold with the 3 gyros is that the servos do no want to go back to center on the same spot and is erratic.
So I am thinking of using the normal setting which momentary gives the control surfaces a short blip to counter the sudden airplane movement.

In the picture posted below started by buying a Hitec 3 axis gyro from Tower which is the one at the left top, I found it was not very reliable in fact I think there is something defective with it so I am not using it.. The next gyro I tried is a Hobby Eagle which I bought from Ebay, this one works and i like that it has 3 selectable functions, 1-it can be turned off, 2-it can be switched to hiding hold, 3- it can be selected in normal correction mode all from the transmitter, the bad thing like all 3 of them is it is erratic going back to zero on hiding hold mode and I would not trust it..
The third one I bought on Ebay is 3AXIS-A gyro, so far this one works the best in my bench trials, only thing is it has only 2 functions normal and off mode which can be switched from transmitter, a plus is that it has reversing switches on the unit to reverse the servos easily without getting into the gyro program, so i am thinking of installing this one in the DR-1.

I don't see anything that sticks out that is different on your airplane looking at the pictures, looks like we both have the same wheels, only thing different I see is your field looks more level than the field I am flying off of, ours has low and high spots down the length, maybe that's it?.
I have the plane in the trailer now and planing to bring it down in the basement soon to set up the gyro on it. I am going to hook up the rudder and airlon through the gyro.

What you describe is pretty much a "scale maneuver" for the DR-1 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...s-display.html

My 1/3 tripe does the same thing.
