Default Foampilot

A friend of mine asked me if i could do a pilot for a friend of his.
He wanted it to look like his friend and be halfscale! Since i have trouble saying no i agreed to do it.
I got some nice photos, you know a bit like "police photos". Anyways, i cut out a profile in thin MDF and used this to hotwire a nice profile in foam. Next i started sculpting with a knife. I forgot to take pictures in te beginning, sorry!
When carving you need to be careful as you basically only can remove material.
After a couple hours it looked like this. Jonas

Im not not educated in sculpting or anything, i just do things all the time and always has!
Anyway to control an aircraft you need arms, in this case one and a half arm.
I tried to make them so its possible to dress the dude later. Also i made eyeglasses.
Some metalthread and some transparent acryllic plasticsheet.(plexiglass).
That was fun! All my pilots will have glasses from now on!
after some sanding i gave him a coat of primer (waterbased woodprimer)
I mixed some color in the primer to get some skintone right away.
Then some more sanding and thats it for today!

I think you should try it! the material is cheap, so when it looks like crap throw it away and try again.
Nobody can do it on the first try!

Next, painting! The primer gave a nice flat tone so i decided to use this as a base for the mixing of the colours needed.
In the end i used six differrent mixes. The frame for the eyeglasses got some black paint also.
The owner of the plane and his wife wanted to dress the pilot themselves so i painted him nude!
Had a bit of fun with a "farmersunburn" at last there is pictures of him in the offic and with the 1/1 version.

Very good likeness. We don't see much of this done.

I used a Williams Brother pilot a few months ago, as a starting point for a 1/8 pilot for my Rake M1c. The pilot: Peter Rake himself.
The modification was made from sculpted thick CA, added to the bust. The fact that he, no offense intended, has a big head, makes it easy to add to the base pilot and get the desired effect. The cap was added over the factory cap, to enlarge the skull.
