increasing wing area question
I have on my building board at this time a Tower Uproar kit.
I have two Magnum.30 4 strokes which I'm going touse for this endevour.
Will I have to or should Iincrease the wig span/area for better control?
The advertised specs are as follows,
Wingspan= 48"
Wing area=578 sq."
Length= 42"
Weight as a single engine= 3.5 to 4.lbs.
Thanks in advance because I have no idea how to figureand work with the numbers.

RE: increasing wing area question
You have two choices, First choice, lighten the airframe to comp weight and hold the same wing loading. Second choice add only enough wing span area, and it is not going to be much to hold the same wing loading. Then again you could always just build as is, add two engines and have a little speed merchant, but that makes three choices doesn't it...

Ratt,
If you increase the wing area you will have to increase the area of the empennage proportionally or increase the length of the moment arm from the CG to the tail surfaces. Dan.

Or you can move the C.G. forward a little, plane will be more nose heavy anyhow, so this will help

If so there are several things your going to need to do, this is how I would approach it.
Increase your wingspan to either 56 to 64 inches.
Enlarge your rudder and vertical stabilizer area as well as your horizontal stabilizer and elevators about the same 8-10% as you increase your wing area. (If you do this you won't have to change the length of the fuselage.) You want to put more of you increase in area to the vertical area to the rudder so you will have some chance of control in the case of an engine out.

Yes, It's going to be a twin. Two Magnum 30 4-strokes.
Iam in the middle of extending the fuselage 3". I'll make the nose cone 4 or 4.5" long plus I will extend the elevator from 3.5 to 5" the rudder will be in proportion to the rest. I think Ican reasonably get the length from 42" to 47".
Thanks for your input!
