I'm contemplating a scratch build of a shorts skyvan, this wierd plane seems so appealing to me maybe because there isn't anything quite like it. I'd like to ask what I need to consider before starting this project so I don't end up wasting too much time. I had a 1/2A plan but am thinking of making it slightly larger. This was the only plan I could find (ama plans listing). Was thinking of speed 400 size electric motors for power plant.

I think you might find the link below of interest. The building in question is building two at the same time but I believe he may be using 300 size motors. At the least it will give you some ideas on how to proceed. As you can see from my avatar I like the unusual aircraft myself! Good luck!

I have a plan for a Skyvan which is 49 inch span.

It's the English RCM&E plan, designed by K.Flynn for two beam mounted Cox .049 engines.

I think the construction is a little heavy, it could be lightened quite a bit for electric.

Hey flyer in OKC, saw the link! That was a nifty variation of the skyvan, Probably very economical too. I don't see too many pics of this airplane, do you know of any other sites to look at?

That one build is the only one I was aware of so I sent it. The Skyvan is very rare to find in a model but that makes it all the more attractive to model! Some of the uncommon aircraft I have built or are working on are: Dornier D-1 (only 5 ever built), Ryan SC-M prototype (one built), Ryan SC-W (Counting the SC-M that was converted 15 built), and the Globe Swift GC-1B (A good amount but not nearly as many as the Temco Swift). On my short list for the future are the Harlow PJC-2, Beechcraft Staggerwing D-17S (if I can find a good .60 size) and a Bellanca 14-12F-3 Cruisair or Spartan 7W Executive.

This really is a cool plane. I know there is a guy from Omaha that built a pretty large model of this plane. It would completely break down and fit in his car. I don't know how many pieces it was in when torn down. It seems like the fuse was 12-14 inches tall and wide... It was CHUNKY !
