Question can I change from fixed uc to retracts???

Hi there
My son and I are building a SIG FOUR STAR 60 at the moment. It's a nice plane but we want to customize it a bit.
The question is can we install electric retracts in the wing while building since the standard fixed undercarriage is mounted forward of the leading edge.By looking at the plans we'd shift the undercarriage by about 2 inches back.
Would the ground handling still be ok? What are some rough parameters as to how far from.the COG can the wheels be placed and the plane still perform ok?

Yes you can do that. A couple rules of thumb that seem to work with tail draggers: the main gear axle should be at approximately the leading edge of the wing, or, the axle should be on a line extending at a 15 degree angle from the CG.
