Royal Marine scratch built seaplane
Here's one for you. I've always had a thing for flying boats, and last winter went searching for plans at Outerzone. I found the Royal Marine, billed as the world's most beautiful flying boat. I thought it looked like a worthy build, so I downloaded the plans and started building.
I changed a couple of things in the build, most important was changing from a twin spar wing to a conventional D tube wing. Fuselage was formers and stringers, sheeted with balsa, then covered with 3/4 oz. fiberglass. The tail was the most challenging, being tapered in both dimensions. Engine nacelles are built up and strip planked up front, and pink foam for the rear portion.
The wingspan is 71". Power is by a pair of Thunder Tiger GP42s with 10x6 wooden props. The finished weight is 7 pounds 9 ounces.
There's a more extensive build log over at the other forum.
I'm glad it's finally done, but I'll wait for next summer to maiden it.
