Default Modifying AW Pitts Python 50 cc

Hello
I have been flying a AW Pitts python 50cc for over a year now.
Although impressive looking and robust I found the plane to be just too heavy, I am flying at 2600 m ASL, which really affects the engine power, I am using it with a DA 85 with 24x10 three blade mejzlik.

I have a friend of mine who really is as good builder, we are planning redoing the fuse to lighten it up with lite ply, foam, differet construction (more like carden style) and also enlarge the fuse , since to me it feels like shor ot tail momentum (Knife edge, rudder governability , 3D, etc) 4 inches or so
About the wings I am still thinking whether it would be worthwile to increase span of bottom wing to increase wing area and diminish even more wing load factor, but I ma reading that usually the bottom wing in a biplane is meant to be more efiicicient.

Any clue about what happens if the bottom wing has exactly the same same span of the top one?, is it really bad if I eual the two?.
Any other comments? tips suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Omar

Same span no problem. You would not have real Ultimate biplanes or Pitts S-1Ts and a lots of others.
