All framed up, too pretty to fly. :(
OK, this has to have happened to at least a couple of you scratch builders. Here I built this nice little plane from scratch with a friend of mine. After spending a couple months shaping sanding and gluing, balsa shaped cowl and all, we really went out of our way to make this the cutest little custom bipe you ever saw.
Low and behold I started on my 80" bipe project, so I gave him the plane to finish up which he did last weekend. I just drives me kinda nuts when we spent so much time to make it so nice, and waited and waited to get this little guy into the air, that now since the frame work looks so nice, we both decided to just hang it up as a bar ornament and leave it as is.
It looks so nice hanging above his bar, yet bums me out in a way, as it will never fly. [:@][>:][&o]

Hey guy give us some pics.
I'm just gettin started in the scratch building world and I'm actually lookin forward to my first BIG project. I wanna do a couple of beater, bash around trial versions first.
I'll bet that after awhile you'll pull that bipe down and put her in the air.
I hope it lives a long time!

The Moment of Truth, Judgment Day, The Day of Reckoning or in other words: Am I a Man or a whimp?
I would recommend that you fly this airplane and then hang it from the ceiling, then you will be able to talk with authority and be able to really enjoy a cold beer!

That's ok. I look at it as just one of those little warm up building projects, as the bipe I am going to be building once I get the wood will be at least twice as big. That will be worth it, and won't hang above my bar. It will fly. Well, maybe afterward I'll hang it from my 12 ft high vaulted ceiling in the middle of my living room. Wife would love that.
I don't have any pics of this little frame we built. Nor do I have it. It's over at my buddies house hangin' 'bove the bar. But, if I do get a pic, I'll have him scan it for me, and try to post it on here. I just finished up a kit frame (Citabria Pro), will post construction history in kit building section soon.
Right now, just waiting to install my radio. But till I get the radio, I can probably get to work on this scratch built here. Just finishing up some modifications to plans, and trying to figure out approximate wing loading, materials needed strengthen stress points, etc.
As for the little one we left hangin', don't worry guys, there's plenty more balsa where that came from.

No such thing as too pretty to fly. All airworthy aircraft must be flown at least once or there will always be a feeling of longing and regret. Be wise, Grasshopper, fly your airplane.
