Glow engine drawings needed

Does anyone have Autocad (or whatever) drawings for popular R/C glow engines of the 40 to 60 sizes. Do not want four stroke designs. Don't need large ones either.

try this site.

http://rccadparts.deathkeep.com/

mostly 2d drawings.

there was a very detailed 3d model of 2stroke engine floating around few years ago, I don't know whether that can be found.

also, best 2D 3D viewers around period!

Many of the parts noted at the initial site are those which I already have. About 5-6 years ago, I made copies of model A/C parts files, and I see they have gotten around again.

I need something other than the fourstrokes noted, as was hoping someone put forth the effort already.

it's unclear whether you are looking for 2d drawing or 3d model.

size doesn't matter that much since you can change it easily unless
you are looking for high accuracy.

try 3d cafe if you want 3d model of 2stroke glow engine.

The K&B 40 and FOX 15 2D files are both there. Can you scale those to fit what you're trying to do and fuzz the details a bit to disguise one of those to look like what you need?

Bruce:

I do not want to scale anything. Many of the manufacturers overlap certain parts to fit more than one design, and thus if any scaling would be done, it could easily be incorrect. I have drawn up a few Norvel small ones, and they are each completely different from one another. O.S and Enya look similar to one another in their large sizes, but there again it does not apply to the once mid-range engines.

As to the K&B or the Fox, I am looking for something more recent. Those which are pictured were based upon drawings of way back when.

At this point I would even take a Thunder Tiger drawing.

if you just need 2D drawings, you can get pdf files at OS web site.

http://www.osengines.com/manuals/index.html

there are 3 view of all the engines they manufacture at the last pages of
each manual.
and those are pretty detailed and accurate drawins with dimensions.

you can convert vector drawings to dxf files using ghostview/ghostscript/pstoedit combination.

http://www.pstoedit.net/pstoedit/

http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/

all sharewares, not straigt forward process, but works.

if you want, I can convert couple of them for you.

I could give you detailed drawings of the fallowing engines:

OS 60 FP
OS 48 FS
OS 25 LA

and a side view of an older K&B 40

this is what you will get, if you get the pdf from os engine web site and
convert it to dxf using method I described above.

OS FS 91 w/ pump

do any of the other engine manufacturers have schemetics of their engines
on their web site?

AWESOME parabellum! I took a look at the 2 links you gave but got "skeert" due to my lack of computer savvy. Can you give a little lesson on how to download & install the needed software?

goto

http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/doc/AFPL/get811.htm

and download and install 2 programs

gs811w32.exe

gsv45w32.exe

then goto

http://www.pstoedit.net/pstoedit/

and download and install

binary for Windows 9x/2K/NT/XP

in the /program files/ghostgum directory

run GSview, open pdf file

option/convert to vector file

select dxf format then OK

name the dxf file

that's about it.

Voila! Eureka! It works...thank you VERY much! Now, do I have to watch out for the Adobe police in the middle of the night?

Man, I don't know what I did wrong, but I tried to get that program to run and it kept giving me an error saying that it wasn't finding all sorts of dll's.

Gawd, what a tool! Thanks again parabellum.

If I end up with an empty page when I load the converted .dxf file into my CAD program, does that mean that there were no vectors used in the original .pdf and were just raster images to begin with? Some of the files I tried came out FANTASTIC but some came out as just a border and nothing else came through.

I also had some scaling issues but nothing I can't figure out.

make sure you install the pstoedit in correct directory.
otherwise ghost view won't be able to find the dll's.

since multiple beta version sharewares are used, there are alot that
can go wrong.

I didn't have any problems getting dxf files of os engine manuals that I tried.
but I was unable to get dxf files from RCV engine schemetic.
the software just stops.

can't expect too much from beta shareware.
but I don't think there is any other software that will convert pdf into importable
vector drawings.

does anyone know if saito has web site? not the horizon hobby one.
horizon hobby manuals only have exploded view as vector drawing.

----------------------------------------------------

I found some 3 views of OS engine manual pdf are indeed raster images rather than vector. in which case you won't get any contents in dxf file.

for example, 40 fx, 46 fx, 61 fx, 91 fx manual, 61 and 91 3views are vector
where as 46 3view is raster. very strange.

I really need a non-FS (or four stroke) type of design of the 30-49 size. A FS is too large for the engine cowling.

Cannot speak for O.S., but problem with many manuals is that the drawings are not proportionately correct. They steal a drawing, add in the correct dimensions, but do not correct the drawing nor make it an accurate representation. Thus it may upon conversion become taller or wider than it is represented.

A few of the manufacturers used to send out 3-view Autocad files of their model engines. I bugged them at the A.M.A. convention 2-3 years ago, but only got useable materials from two manufacturers. O.S. and Norvel. I posted these to RCOnline a few years ago. The other manufacturers seem to think this a big secret, however you can purchase the engine, but not the drawings.

Going to A.M.A. show in a week. Who should I bug again?

I figured out why RCV engine schemetic pdf didn't work.
it just take a loooooooooooooooooooong time.
and final file is huge!

I don't think it was drawn by an efficient drafter.
too many unnecessary lines that does not contribute to added details.

CoosBayLumber, have you tried my suggested method?
If you are unwilling to try, I'm willing to convert OS engine of your choice into
dxf files.

Another good news. you can convert robart retract schemetic to dxf also!
