I ran across this discussion and photos and thought it thought provoking. The project is a CL Precision Aerobatic semi-scale Bearcat. I know, it's an RC forum, but the construction methods are very clever and the results striking. Rabe has refined light, simple construction to an art. Have a look:

That's exactly what it is. A further development of the '76 Bearcat. Only now with the laser cut parts and jigs, us regular folks can build one with good results, too. Even Al admits that his approach to building is complex and difficult. It's worth searching the SSW site for his other postings. Each is a rich vein of thought and planning. And his adventures in full scale P-51 Mustangs are a great read.
