Movie of my new sport jet
Hi everybody,
There have been a few threads around RCU over the last year or so, as I did research on this design. The exterior is frozen now, and I'm working on the drawings for the plugs. Here's a movie of the final version, showing all the separate parts, gear retraction, etc.. (It's 1.2 megs, and you can view/download it at http://homepage.mac.com/mikejames/rc...movies/j47.mov )
The plan is still to make some kits available by sometime in summer of 2004. Thanks again to all who contributed during the research phase. It's going to be a nice one. Specs and more info are on my site at http://www.nextcraft.com/j47_sportjet01.html

Great work!
That would be a cool flat spin with it popping off all it's parts like that.
Any ballpark figures of what the kit is going to cost?

RE: Movie of my new sport jet
Thanks, guys. It's been a tough year for me, and a little encouragement always feels good. At this time, I'm still a non-commercial, one-man show, so these things take longer than I'd like. By summer, I will have news on a partner company who will help me get these kits into your hands faster, and let me be more productive.
It's too soon for me to start quoting prices, but it will be "affordable". That's the whole idea... to create something slick looking that we can all fly without the high cost of DF or turbine. It'll be a molded glass fuselage (and hatches) with sheeted foam flying surfaces, and a few internal formers. Standard 90-degree (Spring Air or Robart) retracts will work, and it shouldn't require anything but standard servos, except in the case of the stabilators, and the coupled leading and trailing edge flaps. Those are a little spooky, and so I'll probably use more serious servos there.
My personal version is a "science experiment"... I want to try not only the leading edge flaps, but a variety of other mixing as well, emulating what new fighters such as the F/A-22 do. That's why mine will require 11 servos. Simpler versions can be flown without rudders and without leading edge flaps, if you like, which would eliminate at least 2, if not 4 servos. Still, I've allowed for a 27 oz. wing loading at 10 pounds, which I think is actually a little heavy. The leading edge flaps will be a direct-hinged type, like the F/A-22, not the "leading edge within a leading edge" type", so they shouldn't add much weight.
And... Thanks to the great input I've gotten from some guys here who really know what they're talking about, it has some other high-lift/low-drag features. (More on these things will be shown on my web site, as the plug construction continues.) I'm really happy with the looks and the predicted performance, and this project is now #2, right behind the King Air. Both will be released in summer of 2004... finally.
Thanks again for taking a look, everybody.

Mike,
As always, your work is awesome! I really enjoy your web site and encourage all who stop by here to check it out. The Sport Jet is cool ... but, I'd like an update on your King Air B200. Keep up the good work.
