Default Komafun 15 plans

Hello all, I am interested in trying to learn some 3D things. I want to finally design and build my own plane. I have built a few from just plans, and many kits. I know about 80% of 2D AutoCAD, and first I'll design it with my computer, then build it.

I want it to have at least a 1:1.3 weight to thrust ratio.
Questions before I begin:
[ul][*] What kind of wingspan am I looking at? How about chord?[*] Should the wing be flat, or have an airfoil?[*] I was thinking about a profile. Sound good? What thickness fuselage?[*] What kind of weight should I aim for? (I don't know how much thrust my engine makes)[*] Finally, what should the approximate fuselage length be?
[/ul]

As for control surface proportions, I will look at the tails of other planes for reference. After I get some help, I'll draw a preliminary outline up for download for you guys to check out and make corrections. Thanks, Andrew

Paul Swany's taco is a 25 size, I am building one right know, I believe the wingspan is 37 inches, wing area is 450 sq inches
The fuselage is about 1 centimeter (0.40 inces). Ask him for the actual sizes cause I am building mine with european size balsa so there is a slight deviation. The weight should be 2-2.5 ounces.

Thats about it, don't know the fuselage length.

Hope this helps

SeenMCrash,
Do you REALLY REALLY want to design and build? Then check out Extreme Flight's Mini-3D. Many flyers are using an OS 25 in it and it 3D's great. I checked one out at our field and it is built extremely light. Floats like a feather and harriers without wing rock.
You do know they sell the Mini-3D ARF for under $80, right??
I usually will scratch build when I can't find what I want (and at the price that I want).
Enjoy whichever way you choose.

Yes, I'm willing to put in the time and effort to make a nice plane. I've been building kits and scratch built planes for a while, and I feel it's time to move to the next level. -Andrew

(And I'm against ARFs[:'(])

WOW! [X(] That's a nice plane. Where did you download the plans? Or, can you email them to me at [email protected] ? Thanks, Andrew

P.S. Great job, looks awesome. Much more attractive than regular profile planes.

I don't have the URL, but can e-mail the files.. they're .dxf..
And in Japanese..
Funny thing when I took the disk to the blueprint shop to get it printee full size, the operator wanted to "correct" the squiggles on the print, presuming they were errors in the file.. I told him it was Katana script, don't worry about it..

It's mostly common sense for materials and sizes anyway...

Well, here's the web page. Unfortuanately it's written in Japanese so neither I nor my computer can read it.

Paul,

I couldn't find the home page you described. I could find no more than a few English words strung together. Help? Thanks, Andrew

Use the URL posted above, look for the word "TOP" near the top, center of the page. That will link you to their home page.

Hi. This plane looks amazing. My e-mail is [email protected]. Can you send it to me please? I´m about to start a Fat Free Taco from Paul Swanson and think that do a comparison between both would be great.
I don´t want to sound as a comercial for Paul but the FF Taco is a builders dream and the cut and wood is the best.

OK, got the plans. Yikes! [X(] These plans need some work! The trim and extend commands sure are getting a workout today. I'll do some things to them and post them on my website for anyone else who wants them in .dwg format. -Andrew

Paul, can you give us some more pictures to work with? There are a few parts of the plan where I can't even tell what's going on, especially on the wing near the root.

Other than the images of the simlar planes at the site, I have only the two I posted.
Use your best judgement on how to do things... It's your airplane.
Looks like the designer uses lots of lightness...

OK guys, I spent a while changing the drawing to make it legible. The fuselage isn't done yet, but the wing and elevator are. Follow the link below to my site where you can choose which file you want to download. I would appreciate all advice you can give me about things I can change. Also, it would be neat to hear what the professional drafters have to say. Thanks, Andrew

I get Martian..
I think you have to .zip the .dwg file so it can be downloaded.
Netscape just reads it directly..

OK guys, it's done. I completely redid the format of the "display", and included all the information into one printable plan sheet. It will print to be 3 feet by 5 feet, and fine with industrial plotters.

The files that I recieved are in .dxf format and have not been changed. Files that I have worked with are in .dwg format.

Again, I zipped all files into a WinZip file. Also, if you want just the plan, you may download that alone. Please comment- I know there's something that can be improved!

[link=http://home.ptd.net/~hawkax11/komafun/komafun15.zip]All plans- WinZip file[/link]
Or, download just the finished plan:
[link=http://home.ptd.net/~hawkax11/komafun/PLAN.dwg]Plan (.dwg)[/link]

Finally, tell me if any files don't work.

Plunking on the PLAN.dwg and then saving that file to my TurboCad directory works..

How do you like it's brother Komacro?? Here is the one I made before finish. I am thinking seriously of building a Komafun to compare both.
