Why can't I open .dxf files in TurboCAD LE?
I have a .dxf file (the edge 540 plans that are floating around here) that I have tried unsuccessfully to open up in TurboCAD LE. I consistently get an error stating "File format error: line 0", whether I try to open it or insert it. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas?

You might have a corrupted file. Try downloading it again. Is LE the 2d only version? I have had several versions of Turbocad and have never had a problem opening or inserting DXF files.

I'm sure that indicates a corrupted file. Try a new download. I keep LE around just to help out folks like yourself and it has no problem opening a clean DXF file.
Or you can try opening the DXF file using Wordpad or similar. Look for some form of title or other garbage in the first line of the file. DXF files are all just text with coordinates and commands.

When you get that message, the .dxf is usually a later ACAD version that v4 (L.E.) can't understand. It will have to be opened in a later version of T/CAD and saved as an earlier .dwg or .dxf file so you can open it. If you can't get it, let me know and I'll back it up to ACAD r12 for you. You'll have to fax me $20 though.

This same problem happens all the time in my TurboCad Pro LE trial program. But, I can open these same dxf. files with a trial Deltacad program that doesn't open with TurboCad? Get the same error message as soupersnake.[sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif]

It's the version of the DXF file itself. As AutoCad grew and changed over the years so did DXF with every version that came out. In the past you could edit the text file and change the DXF to a version that would work with your version of ACAD. Years ago you could use Notepad and compose or edit DXF but that all changed. Now, it's a little harder and I'm not sure of the codes after ACad R14. Good luck and hope you get it open.

You might look at a .dxf file that does load, in a text program such as Notepad, and then look at the corrupt file to see if there's an obvious difference which can be fixed.
It could something as simple as line 0...
