Default Wing Placement

Where on the fuselage should the wings connect. I was wondering if there was a ratio, or something to do with center of gravity. Sorry for the newb question.

If you use the search function here, doing a search for "cg", "mac", "center of gravity", etc., you'll find a lot of past discussions about this. Some are quite technical.

When I plan a new design, the airfoils are one of the first things I select. With a conventional setup, the center of gravity should be placed between 25% and 35% of the MAC. (Mean Aerodynamic Chord) So, you design the rest of the airplane around the intended balance point. The only other option is to move weight around inside the plane after it's built.

Default RE: Wing Placement

You have a choice of placing the wings for appearance and moving the CG to fit the wings... or placing the cg on the fuselage and matching the wing location to that.

Remember the little "Sleek Streek" rubber power model? you move the wings wy forward and the thing loops like crazy and crashes because you put the wing forward of the CG. If you put the wing way back... it just plays lawn dart. Put the wings on the CG it flies pretty well.

The average ARF... you place the battery in the tail and use a light engine... loopy-crunchy. Put on an oversize engine and the battery in the cowl... its a ground vehicle with wings. Same result... different method.
