Default Super Sportster 20

Its Friday the 13th, no better day for a first flight on a plane (my first - first flight - no one else was at the field) that was built from scratch using a modified scale down of my GP Super Sportser 60 plans.

I modified the wing to have much more aileron than my 60, well that was almost the end of it (a little squirley). Good thing I really set my low rates low! Additionally, no dihedral on the wing but the wing-tips are angled (a little help with rudder control).

This is been a great little project and is only my second plane. It is very quick and little more to handle than the 60 which was my first plane and only have been flying since March (30 flights - 1 Crash - 1 Rebuild).

If you looking for a second little plane, I would recommend.

mstroh3961,

If this is your first Sportster -- ailerons are a little sluggish at low rate throws. A couple of post here mention folks that have lost or came close to loosing it on first flight. I would recommend that your low rate throws are at what GP lists as High. Go High about 1/8 - 3/16 more.

But thats me! My 60 would barely do a snap role on low rates, more of a barrel role.

Good luck tomorrow -- hope your weather is good.

Thanks It my first one. How about the elivator? is 5/8" up/down enough? It just doesent look like enough to me.

I put the recomended throws out of the book on the low rate and added some extra on high rates just in case it was needed.

Elevator isn't bad. I added a bit on the high throw side -- It will depend on where you CG is. Mine is a little forward which I am going to adjust this weekend. But it is pretty responsive up and down.

The other thing to watch for -- this is a fast plane! It will get away really quick. I just start to fly this year with my dad. I started on a modified sig kadet (symmetrical wing). It went in and out of loops good. My sportster however needs to throttle down just at the apex or else it is really screaming when coming out.

This is an awesome plane that just fly's great.

I here ya on the speed! Im going to be taking it easy with this one for a while! I'm curantly flying a 4Star 60 with a Saito .91 . The Sporster has a OS 1.08 swinging 14-6 prop.
