hovercraft landing gear???? is it feasable
I was just wondering if anyone had every atempted to use a basic hovercraft as a means off landing gear that would enable you to take of and land on almost anything snow, ice, water, shortgrass, asphalt ect. i made a hovercraft that has an electric lift fan and weighed in at about 6 ounces without battery. for this expiriment i was considering mounting it on my GWS slow stick powered by 350C i am not sure this setup could handle the exrta wheight. the battery on my slow stick is a 2200 mah li-poly i was condidering running a second speed crontrol from the battery and then plug it in to the flaps channel and on landing aproach i would sipmly flip a switch to activae the lift fan, however as i consider this i realize at the end of flight when its neccesary to land the battery will be lacking of ample power to operate the "hoverboard" i could also use another pack for the landing gear but this setup would nearly double the wheight of my 13ounce park flyer and weigh in at 20+ ounces[:@]. at that wheight im asuming the flying charachteristics will suck not even mentioning the amount of drag produced by a hovecraft slung under its belly[]. any comments are welcome and im very interested in imformation about past attempts thanks,

RE: hovercraft landing gear???? is it feasable
Um...!
I'm on a University team that is building a heavy lift challenge aircraft (I believe the US has a similar event). Anyway, our project supervisor suggested a hovercraft landing system (presumably because the rolling friction during takeoff disapears).
Since then all my faith in the teaching staff at this uni has been terminated until further notice!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the technical and practical problems FAR outweigh anyway advantage. That said do it anyway!

Back in the late 60's or early 70's a full scale Lake amphib was fitted with a hovercraft system. I saw some video of it and it was pretty wild. I see no reason why it can't be done on a model as well.
