RE: Tower Hobby Balsa
If you buy balsa from Tower they will not sort the wood for you so don't bother asking for light or straight. Really your better off buying from one of the balsa suppliers,Lone star, superior etc and tell them exactly what you want and you'll get it. Dennis

RE: Tower Hobby Balsa
I have bought 1/16" and 3/32" balsa wood from Tower as well as mix of sticks and 2"x2"x30"
The quality is good and the sheets are all about the same density, grain and thickness. however it is not a contest grade balsa. And they are medium-heavy,
but the consistancy of the woods in the bundle was good.
Balsa sticks came handy as it had some odd sizes.
But then got balsa from Balsa USA, and they were good also but for example 3/32"x3"x36" contest grade weight varied from 10-18 grams. mostly in 14-15 range.
But theye were also good quality.

Has anyone used Tower Hobby balsa and if so how was the quality? I’m looking for light and straight 3/8 X 4 X 36.

I found 3/8 X 4 X 36 balsa at the LHS but bought my 1/16 X 4 X 36 wing skins from Tower and they were very good.

RE: Tower Hobby Balsa
When buying small quantities, I've found it best to take a postal scale to the local hobby shop. Normally I order in large quantities (about $500 worth) from Balsa USA and I get a good selection that way. Some is hard and good for spars and longerons and some is light and good for ribs and sheeting. Most of it is decent medium grade. But in the quantity I buy I'm guaranteed to have what I need.
That stock lasts me about 4 years, but after 2 years I have to start buying individual pieces for this or that.

I ordered for the first time this year, I received it in August. Three different sizes of sticks. Quality was good, weight was average, but some of them came bended a little. Since I live in South America, probably the trip was too much, thou the packaging was good.
