Default Fun Fly Wing for GP Venus 40

I want to scratch build a fun fly wing like the U-CAN DO for my Venus 40. I got the idea from the Capiche 50 which has two wing styles you can build.

Where do I start? What airfoil do I use? Are there any kits that I could adapt? What issues do I have to address?

take the airfoil from a plane like sig's something xtra. i would build it with staight leading and trailing edges- easier to build without plans. the hard part is going to be getting the new airfoil to fit in the existing wing saddle. i was going to do the same thing for my kadet lt 40 with a .61 on it, but then realized that the cost wasn't worth it. you can buy new arf's pretty cheap anymore-(hangar 9's twist-$99.00!).

I just like the idea of having two wings with different flying characteristics on one fuse. I already have too many airplanes.

How do you find out the airfoils of these airplanes? What is the number or code? One airlfoil I like is that of the Banshee 3D.

Wrongwaywayne: from what I saw in the field, you can have some clues...

First, all of those fun airfoils are symemtrical. Most of them are "fat", being veeery thick. I would start with a NACA 0018, or an Eppler 169 modified to 18% thickness.
Some of them use laminar flow wings, but I can't see the advantage. NACA 6 series is a good example, and I saw some ads with 63014 airfoils for 3d maneuvers.... I would try this...

In all cases, they show lots of holes.... it seems that a light wing is a must.

Regarding geometry, low aspect ratio and constant chord are also present.

Big ailerons area, probably more than what you already have in your original model. If the aileron is going thru all the span, I would start at 15% of the chord. And one servo for each aileron seems also a "3d rule".

Hope it helps, keep us posted.

I downloaded the Compufoil that has a NACA generator built into it. I will check a few airplanes at the field as well. Should be able to come up with something that works. I was really hoping that I could find the definitive answer.
