Jeff, in case anyone is looking for plans for this beauty, here is a quote over on the Scale Forum from Dario himself:
It is very gratifying to see how IMAA has grown over the years and I’m happy to say that I had a hand it getting it off the ground way back then when I was a very early founding member. While I’ve not been active in R/C for many years, I still attend the local IMAA fly-ins whenever possible. It’s nice to see other old-timer Giant-Scale modelers as well. What is amazing to me is the simple fact that even after some thirty years or so, I still receive inquires about my giant scale plans every so often, even though the hobby appears to be more interested in ARF's, than enjoying the thrill of that first flight on the model you have built from a set of plans and a pile of spruce and balsa. Where am I going with this well, I’d like to announce that the scale plans I started offering so many years ago are still available For a while my son was dealing with them, before he passed away The masters are once again in my hands and I will continue to offer them for sale.
The R/C Giant Scale plans I have to offer are:
The home-built STARDUSTER-TOO, which is done in 28% scale and has a wingspan of 80 inches. Its butterfly shaped wings make it a real stand-out at any flying field. The plan-set consists of three sheets or some 80 square feet of paper. This model was designed right off the original building plans that my good friend Howard Ehellers and I built and flew the real thing and still have those plans.
The home-built SKY-BOLT, this is done in 26% scale and has a wingspan of 78 inches. The model was designed right off the actual full-scale drawings, which Lamar Steen allowed me to use. The plan set consists of three square feet of heavy paper.
The WACO ARE model was taken from some partial factory plans as well as measuring the aircraft itself, which at one time belonged to the New Your City Daily News, and was used as a camera plane. The scale is 21% and the wingspan is 87.25î. The plan-set consists of three sheets or 58 square feet of heavy paper.
I feel confident that many of you members have actually seen one or two of the models at a fly-in or two. There certainly have been a lot of plans mailed out all over the world, over the years, or maybe some have been used for wallpaper. The thing I regret is the price I have to charge for them. They don’t do Blue-line prints any more, but rather make black-line copies and those costs have doubled. The costs for the shipping tubes and the shipping itself followed suite. The plans are $75.00 each, which includes shipping in the USA or Canada.

I just finished getting the landing gear ready to silver solder. I may Tig weld the 1/4" support rod to the landing gear rod. The aluminum block that hold the rods in place also are drill jigs for the screws that hold the gear to the fuse. The rods that go through the board are shocks. Compression springs go on them inside the fuse. The wood block that the rods go through will be glued into the inside of the fuse.

I just finished the cabanes. I used steel for the mounts and muisic wire for the cabanes. I silver sodered everything. The alignment came out pretty good. Horizontal and upper wing at 0 degrees. Plus wing tips to the tail is even. The lower wing has +1 degrees that I have to change to 0 degrees.

Hi Jim, glad you finally got your short kit. There is still plenty of Winter left to work on it. From the pics the center ply spline goes around the wing tips. I used balsa blocks from the leading edge to the main spar. From the spar to the trailing edge is just balsa strips.
I have had club matters that has taken a lot of my time. But I am starting to install servos in the fuse and run my push rods ( steel stranded cable and in nylon tube ). Then I will put the rest of the formers on and sheet the rest of the fuse.

Finished installing the servos and push rods for the el. and rud. I used carbon fiber push rods instead of cable push rods. Installed the servos for the ail. Also hinged the ailerons. I think I will hold off covering the rest of the fuse until I install the engine. If anybody knows where I can buy a 3 degree wedge for the engine mount let me know.

I made a 3 degree thrust wedge from aluminum for the engine mount. Glassed the firewall. Installed the shock springs. I am installing the ignition close to the firewall. The cowling goes over about 2" of the top of the fuse. I can leave a access hatch to get to the ignition if needed. The two A123 battery packs will go into the foam pockets behind the firewall. I am a lot closer to haven it ready to cover then I thought I would be at this time. I hope that Solartex yellow matches the full scale one! Then I just have to spray the black trim color.

Sorry it has been on the back burner ever since the weather broke. My priority in the summer is it fly. I also been trying to get my Byron Corsair ready to fly. I do have it ready to paint. I covered it in Solartex. I just had the paint matched to Ultracote Yellow at Lowes. I am going to try and get the base cote done in a couple of weeks.
