how do you attach vertical tail to round boom?
i want to build the betabird ultralight
it has a rounded boom for the aft fuse section
how do you attach the vertical fin to it?
cut a slot in it? or are there other nice little hardware devices that will work?
thanks

Full size or model? If full then follow the plan. If model then find out what they do for full size and copy that. Otherwise a big gob of epoxy can hide a lot of flaws...
Some sandpaper wrapped around the boom tubing and then used to shape the fin while shimmed up to the centerline will form a nice rounded cove to take the glue better. Some epoxy and perhaps a strip of fiberglass about 1/2 inch wide over the joint should work well. Rough up the aluminium with coarse sandpaper first. Surface area and roughness to key in the glue in the joint is the key to a strong epoxy joint of this nature.

The vertical can be epoxied beside the round boom.. it doesn't have to be mounted on the center of the boom...

yes this is for the model,
i like both ideas, i didnt realize that you could offset the rudder, mmmm that might work
i like the fiberglass cloth and dip and dunk in the epoxy vat! LOL[:-]

I've also mounted it with balsa 45 degree stock on each side, fin on top of tube, stab below.
