RE: Pitts M12 26% plans available soon
Like I said in post I don't remember the exact reasoning why but I will make an attempt to see the gentleman tomorrow and ask him to give the exact reasoning why. And with my memory being what it is (C.R.S.) It might be the top wing was suppose to be be -1 degree. Reason I take his word on design and aircraft performance is his history in aeronautical field both full scale and model design.

Someone requested a copy of the plans with an email address that starts with "cleveralat". Unfortunately my email to you with the plans was rejected by your server. Please send me a PM with an alternate email address.
Thanks,
Rich

Hi fezzzy,
You can request the plans in PDF format by filling out the form on our website. After we receive your submission, we will email you the plans. BBT does not distribute the plans in DXF or DWG format.

RE: Pitts M12 26% plans available soon
Hi everyone. I have a question for everyone interested in BBT's Spirit of Pitts. If the kit were to be made available in a larger scale, say 35%, would that be something that you would be willing to buy and build? I don't know yet what it would cost, but for the sake of discussion assume $450 for the short kit and about $850 for a full kit? I have been asked a few times if the kit is available at a larger scale, and I want to determine if there is a big enough market for a kit of that size/price to make developing the kit worthwhile.
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Way back, BBT sent me a copy of his Cad file. I have since helped out a number of guys to get theirs printed.
I have custom enlarged and reformatted the entire Cad drawing for guys that wanted it bigger.
(yes, bbt's name stays on the drawing!)
I just sent out a full print at 105" span last week.
On average, I might print out maybe 1 drawing set every two months at some larger size as requested.
Note: - For all, , ,
Please don't ask for the file, as I promised BBT not to give it out.
You can get the pdf from rgunder.)

rgunder, , ,
When someone askes me to print it out bigger, it's usually to fit a certain size engine that they have. With that in mind, I would say an increase in size should be matched to the cowl diameter to conveniently fit a common range of engines.

Could be interesting Rich. Any chance of filling us in on some of the details such as span and engine size?

The wingspan would be just under 93 inches, and the interest that has been expressed seems to be in favor of using the DA-100 for power.

DA 3-views shows the 100 & the 150 to be about the same, cap to cap, at 11.5"
If you left an extra 1/2" for inside clearance, that would make it around a 12.5" cowl.
Based on this cowl size, I can figure out what the overall dimensions of the plane would be. I'll make a post hopefully later tonight.

Here's what I've come up with:
I set the parameters up for a 12" diameter cowl.
This is considering that the DA engines are 11.5", cap to cap, and that some might have an oversized aftermarket plug boot.
At a 12" diameter cowl, you would have 1/4" clearance in the event of an oversized plug boot.
Here's the quick specs, should be pretty close..
Length - 79 7/16" (rudder to cowl)
Span - 85 3/8", (92 7/32" with the wingtip option)
Horizontal - 28 15/32" across
Height, sitting level, bottom of wheel covers to top of fin - 29 3/8"
Height of just the rudder - 16 3/8"
Canopy - 22" long x 6 19/32" high
So, , ,
- If planning on 93" span with the wingtip option, it would fit a 12" cowl nicely.
- If planning on 93" span without the wingtip, you'll have an even larger cowl size for maybe a bigger engine!

it's easy when you are teacher cnc in woodwork... the parts for the wings i make in school, parts for the fuse i made by hand...
I also have the DL50cc engine, now looking for a good landing gear, carbon prop(2or 3 blade) and a good silent muffler... anybody a second hands??

Skystar, Thanks for posting your pictures. Please keep them coming. I recieved my kit from Rich last week and am getting ready to start. For the MT50 I'm putting on it will have the canister muffler as I have to keep the noise level down too. Good luck with your build. Khelsea

Now isn't this ironic. I look at maybe a hundred different paint schemes for Pitts and the one I pick out is at the beginning of this thread.

That would be one BIG plane. And to think I was almost afraid to build the 26% size just because of it's almost 6 foot span. I might just have to build one just to see if I could handle the almost 8 foot span of the big one. Rich, any scratch and dent kits laying around?

I haven't got to that point but the instruction guide says Glue W9a plywood ribs on W9 with 30 min epoxy. The tabs should be placed on the upper side of the wing ??? Skystar check for the PDF on the build I think somewhere aroung page 13. You have a PM too Lanny Khelsea

I guess I would back that sheeting a little but 99% of the stress should be taken up by the front wing dowels and the 6mm rear plate and 1/4 20 nylon wing bolts. Lanny

Hi Skystar, in the post 488 there are a photo of the fuse open in the firewall for a canister. I cannot see them on the photo in your last post, have you redo the fuse ?
