I will send RCIGN a PM to join this discussion. He is a regular on RCU. If you search G62 (AND) lite you will find threads discussing his engine. It is basically a G62 with modifications and an electronic ignition. It weighs around 4 lbs total and apparently has great torque. I think the price may be a little less than a DA 50.

Ralph,

I don't want to hijack this thread but what is the price to convert a G62 as pictured below?

Got my kit today and looked it over. Nice wood and beautiful laser cutting. Got to get started!

Am I missing something? Looks like I need to cut F5 to be able to put it in place. What are you going to cover yours with, Richard? I'm thinking Solartex but I want to see what the bare weight is going to be first.

Hi Wally, sorry for the late reply. You should be able to move F5 into place from the aft end of the fuselage sides. The fuselage sides may need to be tilted inward while F5 is moved into place. After F5 is in position, the fuselage sides may be rotated back into position with F5 passing into the slot. I apologize if this is confusing, I can send some pictures when I arrive back at the office tomorrow.

I haven't decided yet on covering, or color scheme. I am still looking for inspiration for the finish

I understand, Richard. Thats how i got all the other formers in place but F5 is different. It has to fit into the slots on the bottom of the fuse at the back of the wing saddle. The only way I can see to do it is to cut the cross piece at the top of F5 off and then glue it back in place with some backing pieces after the former is in place. Other than this one little glitch I love how the fuse goes together. Bernard did a great job on this design.

Wally,

Agreed, Bernard did a superb job! I will post some pictures of the assembly of F5 tomorrow to better explain that step.

Does anyone have one flying or nearly finished? Work is keeping me away from the building board too much right now but I'm getting some jig fixtures made and have lots of prep work done. I'm going crazy trying to decide which engine to put in it.

Oldtimer2

Looks real nice, did you buy the full kit or the short kit?
If the short kit did you use fractional wood or did you find a supply of metric wood in the states?
Also if the engine in the picture is the one going in the M12 what is it ?
Again good looking job

Thanks for the pics and the description I got thru Richard G. I plan on doing the tailwhel mount like you did but I'm gonna try to tie it to the fuse sides if I can.

Hi Art I used the short kit. I got my wood at Lone Star Models. The size was no problem. I cut some strips of 1/64" ply with the 3/8" & 3/16" stingers in each notch in the formers. A pain but I have more time than money so it worked. George

bsheridan2002,

Bernard has been on vacation and as such hasn't had a chance to send the plans out by email. I will gather the requests that have not been filled yet and send the plans for Bernard later today. I apologize for the delay.

The plans are distributed via email so that everyone can enjoy Bernard's design. If enough people wanted kits to be delivered with the plans printed, I suppose that would be easy enough to accomplish.

Might as well through the question out there then...

Would the kits be more enticing if they were delivered with the plans? And if the plans added $25 to the cost of the kits, is that an acceptable price to pay?

Thanks for the feedback in advance everyone!

Art,

Thanks for you input!

The full kit is indeed available again. The price is $399. We expect the canopy and cowling by early August, so orders placed right now have the option of being shipped in two separate shipments, or having only one shipment in August. I am not sure if you have been by the website recently, but we have rebuilt the entire site to make it much easier to navigate and we have added some new products and a customer gallery! Please stop by and check it out: [link=http://www.gundersonaerodesign.com]www.gundersonaerodesign.com[/link]. The new link directly to the Pitts product page is [link=http://www.gundersonaerodesign.com/products/shortkits/burton/]http://www.gundersonaerodesign.com/products/shortkits/burton/[/link].

Hello everyone,

To date the Pitts has been a very popular download, and is being considered by most to be a scratch built project. I applaud the skill and determination of all those who intend to build this plane from scratch (it is always nice to see craftsmanship).

Gunderson AeroDesign LLC has done our best to support this project with laser cut kits, and all of the accessories to complete the model. However, due to that same desire to scratch build the model, demand has been very low for our Pitts related products. As such, we can no longer afford to commit resources to the project and will discontinue the laser cut kit and the accessories per the following schedule:

We will continue to take orders for the laser cut kits through July 31, 2006
We will continue to take orders for the accessories on a first come first served basis until the remaining stock is depleted.

As of today, we have the following accessories in stock:

Cabane struts (22 sets)
Canopy (25 expected by mid-August)
Cowling (25 expected by mid-August)
Landing gear (8)
Wheel Pants (8 sets)
Wing tubes (7 sets)

Thank you for understanding, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

That's too bad Richard. This is a great kit for an experienced builder and I had planned to order another one after the maiden on the one I'm building now. I guess I will have to scratch up the next one.

Wally,

I agree that this is a great kit, and I hope to see quite a few flying one day. It was a tough decision to discontinue the kit, but at the end of the day the economics of the situation made the outcome clear. On the upside, maybe now I will have time to move my build past the bare frame that it has been for far too long .
