Default Fully automatic gear doors for 25 cents

I didn't invent this idea, but it works very well, so I thought I'd post some photos...

When the strut goes down, the rubber band holds the doors open. When the strut goes up, it pulls the string, which shuts the door. Works with no interference, and very simple to rig.

That is a big plane. Is that the same design landing gear as the original?

Yep... Those are Spring Air 701's, and the plane is the same as it's always been. (This update is on the page at http://www.nextcraft.com/j47_sportjet11.html )

One thing...
We will be offering the kit, which includes molded-in gear doors, and also separately-molded gear doors. If individual builders want to use other actuating devices for the doors, that's up to them. I'm just trying to keep it simple, and keep the weight down.

Mike, BRAVO! I got to thinking about this plane last night as I was drifting in happy balsa dust land. How you've managed to keep everything as light as I can imagine something like that can be built. You are clearly saving ounces in places where as a turbine guy, I'm not afraid to add pounds! If you held the isobar wings I just finished glassing, you'd probably have a heart attack, they weigh around 4 pounds each! Your "two bits" is great!

Thank you, Sean.

I hope we can survive long enough to see this kit evolve into a turbine version... That's my dream, for sure. If so, then we'll have plenty of power to compensate for gear door actuators and other gadgets.
