Converting Cad

Converting Cad
I recently had some plans and a parts sheet drawn up for me in AutoCad 2004.
Apparently, many of the kit cutters can not read AutoCad 2004. They need AutoCad 2002 OR EARLIER.
Is there any software that a TOTAL IDIOT can use to convert from one year of cad to a different year ? Preferrably either freeware or shareware as this is a one time thing.

RE: Converting Cad
Campy,
I use Autocad 14 and it can be saved as an earler cad file. Check with the people that did the drawing and see if it can be saved in an earler format. Otherwise I don't know of any other software that can do this.
Cheers.

RE: Converting Cad
You need to contact DataViz as the have a version converter. I think however, you need to have the latest version of Acad loaded up for it to work.
If going the laser cut route, there really is no reason to go toa any higher version than Acad R-11/12 as all laser cutting is based upon vectors. I have run Acad and LT versions up to present release, and the earlier ones tend to cut faster as they do not have a lot of tag-a-long information with each file. Most all laser machine maunfacturers can disolve R-12, as it really is the basis for efficient cutting still after being off the market for a dozen years.

RE: Converting Cad
The conversion worked out GREAT. I saved the file as an R12 file, which any of the kit cutters should be able to use. As far as I can tell from looking at the file, everything converted with no problems. I used the demo program for this.
The file is Dwg Express. It will convert dwg and dxf files.
