Default Help me find this "UFO" design

Hi Guys

I'm looking for a plane I saw in Flying Models I think some years back. It looks like a 1930's sci-fi space ship blimp without wings and curved tail surfaces. It looked to be 3 channel with a lifting body.

Sorry I don't have more details. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Thanks
~Red

Could it hav been the Russian development passenger plane, a huge almost circular lifting body with tiny little stub ailerons out the side?

Mcflyboy

No it wasn't concept of any type I don't think. I'm pretty sure it was maybe a Roy Clough (?) design.

You might be looking for the Martian Spaceship designed by Ruff and derived from Roy Clough's earlier model. Part one of the construction article appeared in the August 1991 issue of Model Builder magazine. You can get a photocopy of the article from the AMA Library and Bill Northrop may sell the plan.

I too must see this! I don't mean to push but I felt the thread at least needed a bump

Are there others interested?

[8D]I'm currently trying to scratch build this thing based solely upon photos I have seen of it. My design intends to use a brushless electric motor for power. Might be a bit tricky......but I'll let you guys know how it goes. I scaled it down by the way so its only about 2 feet long. Should be good for experimental purposes.

Have a look at the Vintage threads on RCU. You can most easily find the posts by looking at those by dicknadine. He "dicknadine" is building a Clough Martian Spaceship. It comes out rather larger than you might expect, barely fits in the car. Dick has built a number of the Clough designs both before and after his house and models were destroyed by Katrina.
