3D Renderings of GWS Receiver and Servo
I'm putting together a VTOL project and have been modeling it with Rhino3D. I have been doing just block mockups of each part for general positioning of the components. I finally took the time to do the servo and receiver in detail, way more detail than I needed, but it was fun.
I've taught myself how to do what you see, so it's not a professional job, but I'm happy with the way they turned out. I got as close to exact measurements as was possible with a metric metal ruler and one eye closed.
And oh yes it does say "GWS ervo" on the side of the real servo.
Enjoy,
Lyle

Those are fantastic. And you can load them into 3D CAD to insert into designs being worked on?
You, buddy, have FAR too much idle time on your hands.....

These are in Rhino 3d, which I'm not sure how it differs from a "CAD program". It offers isometric views and dimensioning, as well as 3d rendering. It doesn't do any materials analysis or anything like that though. You can export to about 20-30 other formats, including dwg.
The servo only took about an 2 1/2 hours, but the receiver took about 6 hours. I put way more detail than was necessary or even viewable into the receiver, but oh well. I stopped after I was sick of trying to look inside the case with just the right light to model things that even I would not see in the end.
I have already imported the receiver and servo models into my main VTOL design file. It turns out that the measurements I used from the GWS site were off by quite a bit or I was reading them wrong, ya never know. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes to spend the extra time to add the detail, it make the 3d model so much easier to visualize.
I'm going to be doing a detailed model of a GWS EDF50x5 next, I can post it when it's complete. Modeling the blades are going to be a leaning experience.

Hi Lyle,
I must say you have done a very good job. Congrats!
I am also interested in getting down to teach myself Rhino 3D. Are there any books you can recommend to get down and some reading and practice on this software?
Thanks in advance for any information you might be able to provide me.
Regards
Reuben

RE: 3D Renderings of GWS Receiver and Servo
Thanks!
I personally don't know of any books, but the Rhino site has some good tutorials. If I need to know how to do something I just search there or try the rest of the net. Although Rhino is pretty straight forward.
Sorry I could not be more help.
