RCM US60
Well, it is about time. I recently received my Ultra Sport 60 plans from RCM and have begun to plan for all the wood that I need to buy. Wow, what a job! Has anyone taken an inventory of a US 60 kit and written it down somewhere? It would sure speed up the process if I had this information. Others would surely benefit from this info. I am waiting to hear back from a fellow regarding a short kit that I can buy hopefully soon that will probably help solidify what additional materials I need to buy. Nothing sure moves fast when working from plans!
I am also thinking about switching the aileron control from one central servo to one servo per aileron. Has anyone done this before? I think it might give better control and response.
I also noticed that the dihedral is different between the GP US60 and the RCM US60. Any thoughts?
I have looked at quite a few other threads with regard to building this plane. I am sure they will help along the way!
Regards,
Travis

RE: RCM US60
Im also building a US60 from the RCM plans. So far I've got the two
wing panels done and just about ready to start on the fuse.
You should of received a copy of the construction article with your
plans. The construction article has a bill of materials list.
I wouldnt mess with a short kit. Its not that difficult to cut out
the parts yourself. Just be prepared to do LOTS of sanding.
I am building mine with dual aileron servos mounted in the wing.
As far as the dihedral goes its built the same as a Kaos wing.
Its flat across the top of the wing. The dihedral comes from
the wing taper.
I have put some pictures of my build so far up on my
web server. If you want to take a look go here:

You might also want to take a look at the August 1989 issue
of RCM. That has the original article on the US60 along with
some helpful pictures of the build. It also contains a bill of materials.

If I went ahead and scratch built the US-60, where can I get a canopy for it?
Thanks,

The Great Planes kit appears to be identical to the RCM version.
The GP canopy I purchased fits perfectly on the RCM US60
that Im building.

XTOL,
Thanks for the info! I think you've inspired me to undertake this as my next build. Righ now I'm building a GP Ultimate 40, but I need to line up the next one.
I just ordered the August 1989 issue of RCM + the plans.
How is your build coming along?

Yes, I've checked out the web site. Nice progression of pictures documenting the build. I'm sure I will refer to those as I go along.
