RE: Enlarging a kit
I can raise hand to this one. Go to office depot or whomever they sell a roll of 24" paper. Trace your parts on the paper with great care. Note the thickness and type of wood on the tracing. Im not sure how big you are going to enlarge; my last plane was a 50% increase. Take your tracings and prints to a blue printing place "I found them to be cheaper" and they can enlarge both at the same rate. As to the wood you don’t always need to match the enlarged thickness, doubling some thinner woods can be much stronger. Hope this answers some questions

the above works real good for the outline only. reason- the structure goes up with the enlargement, which is not correct, reason- assume that your enlargeing from 12" to 48", that means all of the lines and spaceing are 4 times larger. 2" rib spaceing is 8", a 1/16 longeron is 1/4. is the size you want ? think about this and then you start doing good old scratch design/engineering. think what an 80'' upscale would be. you would be be building a super tank. so what do you now? yell for more help and DON'T get DISCOURGED. really would suggest your buy a large wing span kit of the model you want build. right now I'm upscaleing 3" 3 vu's to 80", but there's over 70 years of experience, models to full size MOON Vehicles when I do it dick stamm

I would not attempt a 4x enlargement as in the reply. At 50% and below the method is well supported. In going from an 8 foot model to 12 feet there is not a big jump in the design. I build and rebuild allot and unless you are looking at Scale or 3D plane you should be fine up to a 50% enlargement. As to 4 times larger I cannot help with anything that grand. You might need to ask dicknadine.[X(]
I would always encourage trying to go beyond the normal and create what you dream of. It is possible to finish as well as to have something unique and worth more than just trying to find a larger model.

Bill, you don't say how much you are looking to enlarge the plans. The guys are all right depending on how far you're looking to enlarge. For up to probably 25% oversize the wood sizes and structures can often stay identical other than for some obvious changes to spars and around the firewall. Obviously not everything can just be slavishly enlarged or you get servo trays that don't fit and wood sizes that are just plain odd. So taking a laser cutter file and just saying to make it larger won't work. Same for plans enlarging, you still need to make the notches and stuff fit in with the wood sizes whether it's making them smaller to fit the original wood sizes or making a jump to the next size up.
When you hit 30 to 40% or larger then the plans you are working with are only good as outlines and the parts as guides. At that size you need to redo the engineering to increase the number of ribs and formers and take into consideration the spar design and other factors that take into consideration that the wood requires the proper support to do it's job.

I'm looking at either 40% or a big jump to 60%...
I realize their will be some sizing differences involved.......but If the formers are correct .I can get the stringers to work

Throw me a bone!
What is the plane you are wanting to enlarge?[sm=confused.gif]
Giant Trainer? War Bird? [:-] What is the orignal design? box or stick const. Built wing or foam? orignal span? desired span?
"I am ready to get the pencil sharp".

AH in the mood for a bipe!
The Jungmann is a rare breed in the giant area. I rember a almost 60" model but fuzzy on the kit . The eagle is easy enough to find at 1/3 scale. Do you have any prints or a source yet? Bumming from a tigermoth plan. Whatcha-got?

I found the one you are looking at ! It seems to be a old kit in high demand on IMAA. http://www.rcfcbc.com/gallery/album06/front_pic_03
There is a wing kit on ebay for the plane. I will keep snooping around might turn something up...[:-] You can still get some of the parts Here http://www.carlgoldbergproducts.com/bucker.htm
