If the plan is still out on the 'net perhaps a link to it would let us see what it looks like and suggest solutions to any of the tricky bits.
There's literally dozens of Mustang plans out there and any of them could also be altered to simulate the original P-51B version or even the 51A Apache version with a little effort. So don't discount other plans either.

That is not a very detailed plan I'm afraid. It assumes that you know a lot about what to use for building it and how to jig it up and a host of other tricks that only come with experience.
I also do not like the airfoil choices at all. The diamond shape is known to produce a harsh stall and the lifting flat bottom airfoil shows in my own CAD as being a lot of short straight sections with a very poor upper front shape to it. At the very least I would suggest switching the airfoil to the Selig 8036 and 8037 combo for the root and tip sections.
And was it you that had a problem with getting a good supply of balsawood? Because the plans as shown would require balsawood or would require a lot of modifications. For example the wings are sheeted with 1/16 sheet. So substitutions for that I'm afraid.

I see that no one has come up with anything yet.
The vast majority of plans on the internet for download are all done by modelers. Because they are individual hobby efforts they often lack the full coverage that is provided in the magazine articles. Do a search for "model airplane magazine" and some other similar phrases in google to find the magazines that offer plans for sale. You can then search through their listings for a plan that suits your needs and order it. Just be sure that the information also says that it includes the construction article.
Most of the magazines that sell plans also include photocopies of the original construction article with pictures and instructions. If you need that level of help to build your model you have no alternative. You'll have to find and mail order the plans from one of the magazines or mail order for a kit. Or you may find that someone has plans from an old kit for sale on ebay or in the RCU Marketplace or similar.
In the meantime you can search the web using various keyword combinations to build up some information. And you may find a set of plans that also has the information to help with the building for download that I have not seen before.
Good luck.

I am in the process of building this plane. It is pretty tricky to build, and some basic understanding of RC construction is absolutely necessary. I am going to glass it, and run it as an electric. I am also going to put retractable gear on it. I am not sure how to do this, so I refer to several websites and fellow RC-ers. The basic build is actually quite easy, but there are no instructions on mounting gear (receivers, servos, etc). This is why you need some building experience.
The wing is actually a scale representation of the laminar-flow wing, developed and used on the real Mustang.

Go ahead and try it. You'll learn alot about RC construction. Take your time, and use members of your local RC club, and look on the internet. There are many sites that are very useful: in particular http://airfieldmodels.com

By the way . . . does anyone know how to get in touch with Norm? I'd love to talk to him, and maybe see some photos of this airplane.

I know that the tip airfoil from the full size P51 sort of looks a little like the diamond shape but if you look at them more closely the proper P51 airfoil has more curve over the peak and a carefully shaped arc to the ramps leading up to it. The surfaces are definetly not flat.
