Info wanted on Wayfarer Bipe
Bitten by the biplane bug.
Just received RCM plans for Don Dewey's Wayfarer and the Acro Star.
Thinking of building the Wayfarer as it looks to be the easier build.
I am interested in hearing from anyone who has seen, built or flown this plane.
Does anyone have or remember the cover photo for this plane?
Was it bright yellow?
I can't find the issue as my collection starts at Aug. 1972.

RE: Info wanted on Wayfarer Bipe
I've built two Wayfarer's. One back in the 70's, and one a couple of years back. It is a great flying little bipe and you won't be disappointed. Some of the construction is a little different than normal, but if you take your time, you won't have any problems. I'm not sure on the color scheme, but I think the original was solid white with yellow trim.......RS

Please, let me know what to watch out for.
This will be my first BFP and I need all the help I can get.
I just wish the construction article had included the construction photos.
The tail feathers on this bird look like they might be a bit heavy.
I'm also interest in any mods you may have made from the original plans.
Thanks,
BS

The Wayfarer is a very popular plane over here. Svenson used to kit it, and you could see Wayfarers all over this part of Europe. You can still find them, but the kit is getting harder to find. Great airplane, good flyer and easy to build. Most people use a 40-45 engine on it. A 60 as indicated in the plans will be too much power for that kind of plane, and will also make it too heavy.
Enjoy!

RE: Info wanted on Wayfarer Bipe
Kris,
Thanks for the nice pics and the info re Wayfarer kits.
I sure wish the plane was kitted in this country.
I found a Wayfarer kit listed by a firm you might know, Pig-Airlines, at 140 Euros.
I'm thinking I'll stay with the scratch build, which should cost less than the shipping.
I also found a construction article on the Wayfarer kit, but I need it translated from Spanish.
My daughter is working on that.
I sure would like to get my hands on a copy of the kit planes, to see how they up-dated the plane.
Regards,
Bob S.

RE: Info wanted on Wayfarer Bipe
Built mine in 1972, last flew last month. Recommend about 1.1-1.5 Hp. Mine is heavy, near 6.5 lbs. and was under powered with a Torp .40. Flies great with an Enya .60 II. A modern .46 would be about right. Modified the plan for an extra rib bay at each upper wing tip. The cowl is fiberglass, and the fues. painted with Hobby Poxy, wings and tail Mono coat. After 34 years it still draws a crowd. A real sweetheart to fly.

I have a wayfarer kit that I am getting ready to build. When I opened the box, I found out that the only instructions were in french and german. Does anyone have a set of instructions in english? I would be happy to pay for any cost involved. My E-mail is [email protected] Thanks you, Mike.

The Wayfarer instructions are avail at the RCM website http://www.rcmmagazine.com/issues/re...27cfgcsC85A6W5 This one seems to be re-typed. Note the login info is given for anyone to use!
Unusually this particular article does not have photos, many other popular RCM designs have the whole article reproduced on this site. Plenty of other info here such as articles on a wing jig and scale building.
